Being so pleased with the performance and great value for money, I bought another one. However, the second one had the problem mentioned by others ie. a tight fit in the battery compartment, although it fitted the charger OK. After pushing it in, I had to tap the camera against a hard surface to dislodge the battery to remove it. Not being keen on doing this regularly, I thought, before returning it, I would take a closer look at the new battery versus the previous one and the 2 Panasonic batteries I already had (but which were no longer holding a charge for extended periods). Firstly, I noticed the labels on the 2 Duracell batteries were different, indicating possibly 2 suppliers. The first one, which was OK, had a smaller 'CE' mark near the bottom centre of the battery whereas the second, problematic, one had a larger 'CE' mark on the right hand side of the label. Close examination showed the problem was with the 4 gaps in the body moulding where the contacts are located. On the 2nd battery, these were slightly too narrow, pinching the 3 metal contacts inside the battery compartment when pushed in. I resolved the problem on my battery by running a small electrical screwdriver up and down the slots in the moulding to ease them apart slightly. Afterwards, the battery fitted fine and dropped out easily as soon as the spring battery locking tab was pushed sideways.Read more ›
I got it yesterday, so I still have to check how long it lasts, but so far I noticed that it doesn't fit perfectly in the camera. It seems to be just slightly taller than the original, so the spring holder of the battery compartment doesn't close, and I have to force it in position to close it.
It is just a little difference, maybe a small millimeter's fraction, but since I bought this (which is maybe the most expensive of all the non-Panasonic replacements) just to get a "perfect" replacement as declared by Duracell, I was slightly disappointed.
Anyway once fitted in the camera the battery works without problems, and I expect it will give the same performance as the original.. I'll keep testing it.
EDIT: after using it regularly for one month, alternating it with the original Panasonic CGR-S006, i have to point out that NOW the battery fits in the camera without problems - I don't know why - and that it lasts just slightly less than the original.
Therefore I upgrade the review from 3 to 4 star.
I bought it as a replacement for my original battery which I left discharged for too long and so no longer holds charge. The Duracell battery charged up fine in my Panasonic brand charger with no issues, fits into my Panasonic DMC-FZ8 camera perfectly -- clicking solidly into place with no wobbling -- and lets me take pictures. I've had no problem whatsoever with it.
I've now allowed it to discharge to about halfway twice, and it's charged back up again. I've also left it sitting upside down (charged but not connected) in the camera when not in use for about five weeks, and it's kept a full charge when used -- at least, the camera battery displays full.
So I'm very happy with this purchase and, should I need additional capacity, I may be buying another.
I was a bit wary of the reviews on here, as some of them were saying it's a bit too big for the camera. However, this hasn't been a problem for me. It's definitely slightly larger than the original one, but if anything, I'd say it's the original that is slightly too small, rather than the Duracell being too big. The Duracell fits tightly length-wise, whereas the original battery didn't need so much of a push to close the door. Perfectly usable in my DMC-FZ8, anyway.
And most importantly - seems to hold charge quite well. I charged it, took a few pictures. Then several days later, went to take more pictures, and it still seems fully charged. This would have dropped a bar or so on the old battery, so this is good.
