Useful little charger which allows you to charge up to two USB devices simultaneously (via two separate USB sockets on its top) - either from the internal battery or via the mains while the internal battery is recharging. I use it to charge my iPod Touch and iPhone together. The wall plug can be disconnected and it's quite pocketable in size. About the size of a packet of cigarettes. It also has a button on the front to indicate charge from 1-3 bars.

My criticism? At 1,800mAh capacity however, I have to say that it falls somewhat short of what should be possible for a unit this size - my PowerMonkey is rather smaller, and has 2,200mAh capacity. However, the PowerMonkey will only charge one item at a time, and it also requires a separate charge adapter which the Duracell charger does not - so horses for courses.

Don't expect it to charge your iPhone from flat to 100%, but it will probably extend its battery life by 50% when you need it in an emergency - which is what most people need.

Handy item - recommended.

Great product with 1800mAH battery, but cheaper at Argos - 546/8269 £19.99 - works great with Nokia N8, MiFi, iPhone, Sony eReader.

I've used this (Duracell 5 Hour Mobile Phone and MP3 Portable USB Charger) on my Blackberry 9650 Bold and can only say WOW! This, I'm going to get a lot of use out of.

An initial charge of the unit for 5 hours, then you're ready to go. A 55% depleted Blackberry battery was recharged in 2 hours and that not only left approximately half of the charger's power it enabled me to have a considerable increase in standby/talk time. Note that you can also charge your phone whilst the charger is still connected to the mains which means you don't have to carry your phone supplied charger with you, simply charge your phone in the normal way, over night (the USB charger switches off when the phone battery is fully charged) then go in to work the next day with a fully charged phone AND have the USB charger ALSo fully charged.

How the charger will be after a few uses (normally it take a few re-charges for these Ion type batteries to operate fully), I don't know. I also don't know if the USB charger battery will last long (although other similar batteries I've had last a long time), my first impressions of this item are very high.

Whilst this is a little on the expensive side, I think this will be a useful item to many smart phone (especially Blackberry) users and will recommend it highly (it works also with your iPhone/iPad, just use your own Apple supplied USB lead). Keep a fully charged one in your car/briefcase/handbag and you can guarantee you'll never be saying to a potential client that you'll have to ring them back because your battery's dying.

My only negative comment is that I can only give it 5 stars, I wish I could exceed this - This is one of the first utility items I've received for years that not only "does-what-it-says-on-the-can" it exceeds my expectations. Well done Duracell - this is a truly a great product.

This is a try useful device for those who know they are going away and may not be able to charge their phones for awhile, or those that are caught out having used their phone a lot in the day and need an emergency source to power up their phone.

It is a little clunky to always carry around with you, but it is relatively light and if you have a big enough handbag or carrier bag you regularly use it will fit.

For the price I am a little disappointed it did not come with a few more cable options. It has two attachments that will fit many phones, but I used an iPhone and it does not come with an attachment for this so I will have to use a spare cable and carry that around. Those who do not have spare will have to purchase one extra.

That said its useful and handy, the chunkiness probably cannot be helped considering storage and converting energy issues and I am lucky that I crry a pretty big bag anyway.

The Duracell 5 hour device charger is designed to re-energise mobile phones and MP3 players via the USB port and, on the face of it, you would have thought that it would have been quite useful. This, however, depends on your situation and more of this later.

On unpacking the item, I found it quite bulky and certainly larger than the mobile phone I intended to charge. It comes with a standard plug and also one to fit continental sockets plus two types of USB connector, and requires charging before use. Once I had done this (it took less than an hour), I attached it to my mobile phone which rapidly topped itself up. I understand that, from flat, it would have given me 5 hours talk time, which is reasonable.

Having said the above, my main problem with the device is its size and it does occupy a reasonable amount of space in a woman's medium size handbag and the sharp edges of the plug unit could scratch other contents. I also find that, these days, there are adequate opportunities to charge my phone without using a device such as this, for example I have a spare charger at my work place and another in the car. The times when it might do a turn would be in areas where one cannot plug in a mains lead charger (such as the odd hotel/restaurant) or if you are out in a street or in the middle of nowhere. The most useful time that my friends and I could consider was if one were stranded in a car with a flat battery and flat phone.

In summary, I think that this is certainly a charger fit for purpose, although rather cumbersome, and it does have its uses. You just need to consider these carefully before you buy.
