About the Author

Lisa J Hobman's debut novel Bridge Over the Atlantic was shortlisted in the Romantic Novelists Association's Romance Novel of the Year 2014 (The RoNAs) - Contemporary Romance Category. A happily married mum of one with two crazy dogs, Lisa especially enjoys being creative and now writes almost full time. In 2012 Lisa and her family relocated from England to their beloved Scotland; a place of happy holidays and memories for them and her new location now features in most of her books. Writing has always been something Lisa has enjoyed, although in the past it has centered on poetry and song lyrics. Some of which appear in her stories. The story in her debut novel, Bridge Over the Atlantic, was building in her mind for a long while but until the relocation, she never had the time to put it down in black and white. The move north of the border has certainly given Lisa the opportunity to pursue her dream. Being signed to 5 Prince Publishing in 2013 made that dream a reality but she has since self published works also.

I am a huge fan of this author and couldn't wait to see what her brilliant mind would produce in this story. She didn't disappoint.

This is not your usual run of the mill boy meets girl, they fall in love, and live happily ever after story. This is a grab you by your collar and won't let you go till the end kind of story. There are so many ups and downs thought that I seriously doubted the ability of the main characters to get their act together.

Fin is an extremely well written character. He has flaws, which are obvious from the outset, but these simply made him far more endearing than he may have been without them. He has serious family issues which he does not deal with well. But on the flip side he has an amazing voice which has to be shared, not hidden away inside. Oh, and he's Scottish so that makes him instantly attractive to me!

Star is an American lass living in her dream city of Edinburgh. She hasn't got a lot, but she has loving parents and good friends looking out for her. She fantasises about a customer who buys coffee where she works, and it was pretty obvious exactly who that customer was going to turn out to be. Their first meeting is interesting to say the least. What follows is a tumultuous time for both of them. But that's what makes a story interesting, isn't it?

There is so much humour throughout, as well as some not so funny moments. I loved the characters, but especially Alec. He is the kind of friend every girl should have looking out for them, and the scene reminiscent of Pretty Woman is very well done.

A great story, written extremely well and further proof of the talent the author has. Bring on the next one!

I love all of Lisa Hobman’s books and this is no different. You cannot help but fall in love with both Star and Fin. Fin has a lot to work through, but with Star’s influence can he find his own direction in the world.
This is a really good read, I can’t wait to see what comes next from this author.

I adored this story from Lisa J Hobman, her ninth contemporary romance novel. Lisa’s words have a way of drawing you into the location of the storyline and the characters, I felt that I was there living the hopes and dreams and riding the waves of the emotions with the characters. I also feel that Lisa is a great advocate for Scotland and its raw, natural beauty. This particular story takes us to Edinburgh where we follow two particular people very different from each other who find a magnetic pull between them that keeps drawing them together.

Fin Hunter is a shy man who from a young age has tried to gain his parent’s love and attention and to please them. Fin’s parents have had a great deal of guidance shall we say in his life, they persuaded him to take up law and work for the family firm and lined up a very suitable young lady for a wife for him. The story starts when Fin is due to marry this suitable young lady. Fin was petrified his life was running out of control, he was confused to how he truly felt about Elise, his bride to be. When events don’t go to plan Fin starts to realise that maybe this is the jolt he needed to step back from his parents stronghold and stand on his own two feet and learn to experience life’s greatest adventure of finding true love. With his professional and personal life in turmoil Fin finds solace with his friends at the local club, which so happens to be karaoke night. Fin has always loved music, especially rock, through the bravado of alcohol Fin takes to the stage and literally rocks the place. This shy, unassuming man turns into a rock god with a voice oozing sex appeal. The audience love him and he catches the eye of a certain pink haired young woman.

Finley Hunter is trapped, trying to do the right thing , duty to his family, trying to please his father. His father is never happy Finley can do no right. It doesn't matter how hard he works, how much effort he puts into the life he hates, it's never good enough. He's even marrying the girl his parents have chosen for him. His career in his fathers law firm in Edinburgh all for his fathers approval. In short his parents are status seeking, cold unfeeling and thoroughly horrible.

Star is a quirky girl , pink hair, well at the moment it's pink, tattoos and a wonderful person inside and out. She's been living in Edinburgh, but is originally from America , part of a loving and encouraging family. She works in a coffee shop but her passion is photography, although very talented she doubts her abilities.

After Finley is left humiliated at the alter when at least one of them comes to their senses, Finley Hunter finally starts to live his own life from under the commanding and domineering Cameron Hunter.....

This is not only a romance but a wonderful glimpse into the beautiful city of Edinburgh. It's night life, architecture and there's some lovely use of the English language. You can hear the Scottish accent as you read.

To say that I fell in love with Stars tenacity and strength would be an understatement . It doesn't happen often but I can honestly say that certain characters in this book needed a good thumping! I felt angry on Fins behalf, I wanted to hug him and tell him everything would be OK .

I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book
