I do quite a few things. I try to do them as well as I can. I'm principal of Westview Sailing, an RYA Instructor, a sailor, a voiceover actor, a writer, a speaker, I have invented MOB Lifesavers which add into life jackets and solve the problem of how we get down to a comatose casualty in the water, 'With an MOB Lifesaver the casualty has their means of retrieval back on board, stowed within their own lifejacket" - approved for Crewsaver, Spinlock, SeaSafe and Baltic jackets . I write for Yachting Monthly and Sailing Today in the UK and Sail Magazine in the USA. I write and produce the Westview Sailing Tutorial videos which RYA Day Skipper and Yachtmaster shore based students find to be a useful study aid and which get them through their RYA exams. These videos are also available on Udemy. I am on a number patient and relative committees and Trial Steering Committees, representing patients to the NHS. All this as a result of having been shot by a faulty collision warning flare which back fired and lodged in my abdomen. Ironically I was filming the correct way to deploy emergency and safety flares. I spent 9 months in hospital as a result, 4 months in intensive care and 6 weeks in a coma. I survived what the medics refer to as an 'unsurvivable accident'. Still we're OK now. Bits and pieces inside are missing but actually one doesn't need everything we are born with to be able to live very well indeed. One just needs humour and, Cotes du Rhone - lots of that. I have written Stress Free Sailing, which is very popular and we have recently published Stress Free Motorboating. I am now working on my next book which will be called Stress Free Navigation. Stress Free Navigation will approach navigation in a different way. Instead of starting with a paper chart in a dusty classroom, we start off on board our boat and take the cover off this wonderful piece of kit, the chart plotter. Well that's the first thing you are going to use, isn't it? By working through what the chart plotter does we relate everything to the paper chart. And there will be handy short cuts, 'Course To Steer in your head', of course and 'Secondary Ports in your head'. Just like SFS and SFM we will have QR codes and videos to add clarity to what we are explaining.
