This product is two short foreign movies in one. I am a lover of foreign films so was excited to watch these when they arrived. 2LDK was a little slow to start, but once the action got going you had to laugh at the absurdity, plus the twist at the very end!

Aragami was a much better movie for the mind, it made me think and I found myself routing for the legend in the story. Although a lot of this movie was talking, when the action kicked in it was very well choreographed.

Both movies while worth a watch are cetainly not in the leagues of Battle Royale or the Death Note films but are both still enjoyable and good value for money.

This is the review of "2LDK" only - for "Aragami" see my interview under the stand alone DVD of this movie.

First, before going into the heart of the matter, my advice to you is to watch "Aragami" before "2LDK". Those movies are strongly connected, because they were created as the result of a bet between two Japanese directors, who can make a better film about a duel. "Aragami" is the "classical" approach of the topic (a samurai battles a mysterious warrior in an isolated temple), when "2LDK" is a less obvious presentation.

In this movie only two persons appear - two young women, aspiring actresses, trying to get a role which could be their great breakthrough. They share an appartment, but little else - and the tension between them was building up since sometime already. And all of a sudden they realise, that they both try to get the same role and they both are interested in the same man, an important figure in the movies industry, who can make or break a career...

That creates a real tornado of hatred and they will end by waging a deadly battle, with no holds barred, with no mercy asked or given, using everything they can grab in the appartment... This gives a story which is as macabre as hysterically funny. The dialogs before the fight are really great, and clearly partly inspired by Tarantino... and they are really not very feminist.

I liked this movie, but if I had to give my verdict, which movie succeded more in describing the duel, I would give the victory to "Aragami". A victory by slim margin certainly... Both movies are good, I had lot of fun watching them and I recommend them both.
