This is a handy little book although it is a "childish" in its presentation of the information. It certainly has all the information you'd need when starting out drone flying, including the all-important legal stuff. I've given it to our 12yr old who is just starting out on drone flying (very small ones!).
On balance a recommended read for novices to the world of drone flying.

A very slight, lightweight book which was read in about ten minutes and then put in the recycling bin. Absolutely, utterly and completely useless.

If I were to recommend two good books on drones it would be this one and The Complete Guide to Drones both by Adam Juniper simply because there are comprehensive, educational, entertaining and easy to read and understand.
The Complete Guide to Drones

Of the two this one is the simpler and although good for adults too would be the better choice for younger readers.
(Or someone a little like me that wants to get on with flying)

But even a simple read will improve your skill and enjoyment so much that you will keep coming back to the book time and time again to use those ideas and tips simply because they work, make your flying better and more fun.

Although it is simple and has really good illustrations do not be fooled that this book is not a good choice to learn techniques, tips and rules about flying drones.

Far from it.
Even a with a quick glance I picked up tens of ideas and tips that I simply did not know.

For example Juniper recommends that if you are photographing and videoing do it at dawn or a couple of hours before sunset.
The light is filtered more by the atmosphere and the golden effect makes the pics look fabulous rather than the starkness of full mid day sun.
A simple idea that I did not know.

Just like in his book the Complete Guide to Flying Drones Juniper has that happy knack of educating whilst entertaining the reader.
You find yourself wanting to read everything at once in one large chunk because the book is so excellent.

If you were to remove all the graphics from this book, short to begin with at just 160 pages, you would be left with about forty to fifty pages of actual text. The book consists of a series of small features on various drone related topics, usually of about 100 words apiece with a large colourful graphic on the facing page. The book is very attractively laid out and the illustrations are very good but it is frustrating that there is very little content here and not much to get you teeth into There is nothing much wrong with information set forth here, it is well written, easy to read and usually to the point. I just wish there was more of it.

This is really a sort of small format drone coffee table book.,

I got this with my grandson in mind, who has been the happy recipient of a drone that I was sent to review. It's written in a very accessible format for young people, with lots of helpful tips and tricks that don't presume any knowledge.

I liked the format, lots of simplistic large format block illustrations make the book a colourful, easier read for young people by breaking up the blocks of text.
For anyone who is completely new to flying drones there is a useful Glossary that explains all the terminology they are likely to come across, including that used by keen hobbyists.

There is a separate section with advice for those who fly drones fitted with cameras, a chapter dedicated to comprehensive safety advice, ideas for interesting games, projects and exercises to undertake (categorised as 'Missions') advice on piloting skills, how the drone actually works, and some background information on them.

A comprehensive index helps dip in readers find the information they want quickly. Some may find the illustrations somewhat child-like for their taste, but equally if you are buying this for a young person these may be just what they need to engage them and help them to get the most out of their new hobby.

I've got a copy of The Complete Guide to Drones and found that to be a good read for everything drone. This book by the same author is a 'how to' guide to flying them effectively. It's pretty comprehensive in it's coverage of flying taking you from basics through to advanced techniques for flying and photography and like 'The Complete Guide to Drones' Juniper encourages you to build your own by including plans that will enable you to do that - to be fair it doesn't look all that difficult either. As with Juniper's other work it's written in an accessible and easy to understand format and gave me a lot of fun practising with my grandson's drone - not one crash or scratch. My grandson's also used the tips in this book and his ability to pilot the drone has also come along in leaps and bounds, so it has quite a wide audience. If you haven't got Juniper's 'Complete Guide' I can recommend that as well.
