This guide to dressage from basic to grand prix level takes the reader through each step of the training stages, discusses problems that occur and assists with correct training principles.
About the Author
Highly regarded in Europe, Walter Zettl was trained in Germany under the famous Col. Aust, and has over 40 years of instructional experience in Germany. He came to Canada in 1981 where he was trainer for Eva Maria Pracht, and also served as dressage coach for the Canadian Three-Day team for the L.A. Olympic Games. While teaching lessons and clinics across North America, he was struck by the hunger for knowledge of correct training principles, combined with the difficulties posed by both the vastness of the geographic range and the lack of any organised system for delivering correct information.

The cover says, "From Basic to Grand Prix" but it is indicative of Zettl's impeccably correct approach that the advanced movements take up less than a third of the book, while the basics make up the bulk. Given the current deplorable state of the sport of dressage at the highest levels, this book should really be required reading for anyone who aspires to become a top rider. As for those who simply aim to become as good riders as they possibly can, all you need to know is in this book.
