No holds are barred in this example of a naughty French film - including incest, bondage, troilism, lesbianism, voyeurism and on occasions heterosexual intercourse. This is an elaborate costume drama set in the thirties taking as its central theme the revenge of an illegitimate girl, who, driven to prostitution seeks to corrupt and deprave her father's legitimate daughter.

Review

The British genre press received this film with hostility when it came out on video in the mid 1990s. Why? This is undoubtedly an exploitation film, more precisely: soft pornography, but it does not fit easily into the usual subgenre classification Eurotrash fans come to expect. Although it is a sex comedy, it isn't one of those silly dim-witted sex comedies so frequently made in Italy, England and Germany in the 1970s. In particular, the film takes the eroticism more seriously than comedies normally do and shows even signs of pretentiousness [you can tell it is a French production], and it is particularly the latter aspect British genre critics seem to find hard to accept. Similarly, there are themes of revenge, humiliation, voyeurism, bondage - but these are treated in a semi-comical way, and the distinctly misogynist appetites harboured by the unpleasanter fans of sexploitation cinema remain unsatisfied. Overall, this movie is a generally well-made soft porn flick (cinematography, acting, production values - all of good quality) that is less offensive, violent or silly than so many other products of the genre. The 1985 French erotic film "Dressage" offers up some droll sexual situations that are reminiscent of the classic "Dangerous Liaisons " (and its' modern counterpart "Cruel Intentions") with a touch of the Marquis DeSade thrown in for good measure. Apparently 'set' in the early decades of the 20th century - the plot revolves around the plan by a trio of 'libertines' (to use the 'good' Marquis's antiquated term) to 'corrupt' the children of a pair of aristocrats who they 'have it in for'. A wager is made by the two females of the trio that; whichever one is first successful in this endeavor will marry the male of the group (a Baron) and thus achieve a status of nobility herself. Both women enter the households of the intended 'victims' as 'tutors' to the teenaged ''children' (one a girl and one a boy) and begin their subversive works of 'corrupting' them sexually. This is a pretty hot premise to operate from and I felt that, in some ways, the sexiest part of the movie was in its' 'ideas' rather than the physical depiction of same.

While this film is seemingly considered to be a 'sex comedy' the comedic elements are fairly sophisticated and would appear to be expressed through the underlying absurditiy of the situations that are depicted rather than any overt comedy mechanisms... a decidedly French approach. On the titillating end of things the movie toys with themes of sexual teasing, masturbation, fetishism, bondage, and incest and features a fair amount of nudity on the part of the female cast of very attractive girls/women. Dressage ! For that title, read `Decadence' ! The corruption of the innocent (which is the sub title on the DVD sleeve) takes place in one of those French households where they have butlers & maids and what that rude middle aged head butler gets up to in the `parlour' is extremely naughty! Appropriately enough this release is on the Naughty label & closer inspection reveals that it's another lost gem from Nucleus films !
Now issued in uncut form the sexual shenanigans are explicit without being vulgar due to the artistry of director Pierre B. Reinhard - whenever there are sexual activities there is a lilting semi classical music score & the bright exteriors featuring cars & planes (albeit with nothing rude going on in these sequences!) are backed by a jazz score ! That's original! There are several sex scenes in public places - on a train, in a hallway but nobody displays any embarrassment ! Very Gallic ! Also, total disrobing is done with willing frequency by the actresses !
I enjoyed the pacing & didn't find the dubbing in any way disconcerting - the voice casting is fine.
All told it's an enjoyable Saturday evening's viewing but don't show it to your Auntie Betty, although she might have fond memories of her youth !

I heard a lot about this film, so I thought I will finally get round to getting it. I wish I hadn't! Utter pants! Badly dubbed, badly filmed (it looks like there was a power cut), it is not exactly sexy! Looks like one of those badly 70s "Confession" films! Avoid!

The film is over 20 years old and it shows. One is attracted by the assertion that this is the 'first uncut version' - it implies that there must have been some sexually explicit sections cut out in the previous available version to satisfy the censor at the time. Well if there were, they still don't seem to have been replaced! The story is very simplistic, predictable and rather naive. "The corruption of innocents" again implies - at least to me - scenes of eroticism and a true adult sexual nature. Didn't see any. Technically, the interior scenes were very dark and at times, one really couldn't make out the characters or what was happening. (Wasn't the CD player either!) All-in-all, it was very disappointing.
