Product description

Review

"Karen has done a wonderful job writing a lively novel catching the essence of a side of the equestrian scene most people have no idea about. It shows the sport in a way everyone can relate to and will appeal to young and old, riders and non-riders." -- Jessica Ransehousen "three-time Olympian, two-time Pan American Games team member, US Equestrian Federation Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient, and 2001 US Dressage Federation Hall of Fame inductee. I really enjoyed reading this book after hearing about it on the British Dressage forum.

It follows a young American rider who leaves her friends and home behind to go to train with a GP rider at her winter base in Florida.

It gives you an insight into what it takes to make the most of these working student positions (and how hard they have to work) at the same time contains a lot of useful training information and an interesting view of US dressage shows.

It doesn't have a complicated plot and the characters will probably develop further in the sequels, which I understand the Author has planned, but I'm sure anyone who loves dressage and reading will not be disappointed with this book.

I've just written a review on the 4th book in the series, and the fact I've read all 4 back to back probably says it all!! I thought that I should also put a review here for those who are wondering if to buy this, the first in the series...

The characters are all well written ( both human and horse) and exist in a well thought out and believable plot. I thoroughly enjoyed the read. I can ride, and have dabbled in dressage and the parts of the books that descibe the riding are so well done, that I felt I was in the saddle myself. I highly recommend this and the next 3 books... I wish there was a 5th...

An enjoyable, page-turning read for any horse-lover - riders will probably enjoy it most but I'm sure non-riders might find it fun too. I could empathise with the luckless, clumsy Lizzy, always trying to do the right thing for the perfectly spotless dressage divas in her barn.

I've started on book 2 already...

This book is pretty poorly written in my opinion, with a few grammatical errors and some writing which doesn't quite flow....HOWEVER the plot is good so despite my early reservations, I came back to finish it.

A good read, well written and very interesting for those particularly interested in horse, would recommend.

Also had a good story line and gives an insight into the american dressage scene and also the difference in routines and terminology of horse care.

This book was an absolute joy to read!! I ride dressage and often think it to be the misunderstood poor relation of the other 'exciting' disciplines.....however Karen brings to life a sport that requires so much focus and dedication and hours of gruelling hard work in such a way that it is easily accessible and gripping for even the least 'dressagy' of people. I have recommended this book to my clients and liveries who are not all dressage riders and everyone who has read it has loved it. Can't wait for the sequel!!! X

This book is a fantastic pick me up whether you are an advanced rider or a less advanced rider looking to move forward and perhaps feeling a bit disheartened. Karen has that rare gift of letting her reader live the life of her characters. I loved it I couldn't put it down.

I've been getting a bit cross with all the five star rated books on amazon which you buy based on the reviews, then find are shocking and haven't even been proofread and presumably the authors have therefore just asked their friends to review them.
However, this one thoroughly deserves every five star it's got, it's bloody brilliant. Made a long plane journey fly past (pun not intended). The characters are engaging and interesting, the storyline is fab, everything is relatively realistic and it captures well what it's like to get wrapped up in a yard and competition scene. I wish it was longer! Will definitely be buying the second one for my journey home, the only problem will be stopping myself buying it beforehand.
