What a lovely gentle read this book is, you can almost taste the social events you are privy too as the Holiday's take you for a run around the stunning British canal system. A travel book with a real personal twist. soft, lovely and heart warming. It just makes you think what are we all doing running around in the 'rat race' when with family close by there is another world right in our midst. The backdrop is the lovely British canal system, a love of narrow boats, Cherryl's extended family and a single minded desire to make the most of life whatever it throws at you. This book just adds to my own desire to take to the cut come rain hail snow or poor health. Keep writing Cherryl

Can't wait for part two? The big trip :-)

hope to meet you both on the cut soon, regards to Ian

This first biographical novel by Cherryl Holliday is a light hearted rendering of her and her husband Ian's experiences of making their dream of owning a narrowboat come true. This author has a wonderful descriptive way with words and draws you into her world with every page of the book. I found 'Dreams really do come true' inspirational and captivating. I had a lot of laughs, but there are a number of sad moments in the book that had me in tears. Although the author shares her story with humour, I found that the chapters where she deals with the death of a dear friend, and how she herself copes with a cancer diagnosis and treatment, shows a remarkable woman of character. The way she writes tells me that Cherryl Holliday has a lot of stories in her, and I hope that we will see another book published soon.

Written with honesty and humour this book will appeal to non-enthusiasts as well as those who love life on the canals. If you are thinking about buying and restoring, or buying a new narrowboat you should read this first and, even if you are not it is still a great read. Cherryl also talks candidly about her breast cancer diagnosis and treatment, something that affects too many of us.

Can't wait for the sequel. . . .

Have you ever read a book which you don't want to end? This was the case for me and this book - always a good sign of an enjoyable read! It made me laugh, made me cry and was very difficult to put down. You don't need to be a boat lover to enjoy this book and if you ever need inspiration to do something you've always wanted to do, however small, this is the book for you.
I can't wait for the sequel..

Loving family and their relationship with canals and boating. The book needs an editor, quite a bit of repetition and at least one spelling mistake. I worked out that BW means British Waterways - I don't need telling over and over again. It also goes back and forward in time, not a problem in itself but it is when it entails yet more repetition. I would prefer a beginning middle and end; it just stops. The section on cancer actually moved me (60 year old cynical male) which proves the author can achieve a higher standard.

No doubt the following book will relate to a journey, which will make it easier to be sequential. With a good editor it should be a good read.

I thoroughly enjoyed 'Dreams Really Do Come True'. Once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. As I also live on a narrowboat and have just started cruising the canal system, I found the book to be very informative and can relate to quite a few of the experiences Cherryl describes. I would highly recommend this book to folks who are looking into getting their own narrowboat as well as those who already live on one. Cherryl has a wonderful writing style that I found refreshing. A lovely book to read!

This book was purchased to read on my boat while away for a week. A must read, Cherryl has opened up to allow us all a insight to her life ups and downs while aiming for her and Ian her husband's goal of tour the waterway network. Well done I can not wait for the next episode.
