I would say only to get their album if you know what is in store for you. Fellow fans of the song Michel Angelo, do not buy this album if you expect all songs to be this way. The first half of the album is by "The Kirkby's" the band before 23rd Turnoff. this music is nice enough but you'd only enjoy listening to it if you're into the early 60's pop music, I am, but i found it annoying to listen to, mainly because it isnt what i was expecting. The second half of the album has some demo's of 23rd Turnoff songs, quality not too bad, but still not great songs.
All in all i think claiming the album to be by the 23rd Turnoff was risky, as only half the songs are (The Kirkby's music in my opinion is too different to let it get away with being the same band). Only 2 of the songs off the album are complete and they are "Leave Me Here" and "Michel Angelo" (credit- both excellent songs). Sadly I really would not reccomend this album to anyone though, no disrespect to anyone, but this album is no gem!

The poor reviewer above is a player hater. This CD is absolutely fabulous. The CD brings together all the known early recordings of Jimmy Campbell. The styles range from early Mersey Beat to proto psychedelia. The demos that are included are interesting as "what might have been had they been recorded in a proper studio, etc.' Yes, they are a bit lo-fi, but I have heard a lot worse! There is no wonder this CD has been named the top UK 1960's reissue of 2004. Get it while you still can!

Perhaps I was a little harsh before. Now I've listened to it a good deal I 'get' some of the other stuff. It's not too bad. 'Vincent Van Gough' for example. All that is needed is a decent studio and a spot of production. If only...

HASH(0x9231d8a0) out of 5 stars This disc rules so hard! 23 Oct. 2008

If you dig 60's bands from the UK, ones the combine fine tunes, vocal harmony and even a harder edge from time to time...you have to have this. Just about every track is fabulous. Yes, most have the demo-y sound. But if you are into the obscurities of the golden decade you are already used to that.

One funny thing is that the vocalist on a few songs, most noticeably on "Not a Penny in my Pocket" is a dead ringer for Ron Nasty (Neil Innes) of the Rutles. It's not him, but they are truly doppelgangers.

Do not miss this disc if you are a fan of the period and place.

It's difficult to find sound samples of RPM and Rev-ola, so I usually have to take a chance. I'm glad I did.

HASH(0x937d7cd0) out of 5 stars 23rd Turnoff - 'Dream Of Michelangelo' (RPM) 4 1/2 stars 10 Sept. 2012
By Mike Reed - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Twenty-one track compilation CD of Liverpool psychedelic / pop band that once went by the monicker of The Kirbys. First eight tunes are from the Kirbys, as I found to my liking cuts such as "She'll Get No Lovin' That Way" the awesome (should-heve-been an international Top Ten hit) "It's A Crime" and their single of "I've Never Been So Much In Love". Also soak my senses into the stunning power ballad-like "Flowers Are Flowering" (pretty good for a demo), the familiar "I'll Be Round" (I'm sure that I've heard this '60's gem on some various artists Mod collection before), the demo of "Michelangelo" and the catchy "(Not) A Penny In My Pocket". Line-up: Jimmy Campbell (R.I.P.) - rhythm guitar & vocals, John Lloyd - lead guitar & vocals, Alby Power - bass and Kenny Goodlass - drums. Recommended for fans of the Searchers, the Byrds, Hollies, and the Mindbenders A must-have.

All Right, I'm going Bang! Bang! Bang! on UK, so, here We Gooooo! The songs I like from the Album called the "23rd Turnoff" on Deram Records are, "It's A Crime" ( Better then the Kirbys!just kidding.), "Not A Penny In My Pocket", "Cos My Baby's Gone", "I'll Never Been So Much In Love", "Dreaming", "Don't You Want Me No More?", "Flowers Are Flowering" and "I'll Be With You". Heard this Mod in 6th Grade and they were famous on AM and FM, FM just starting out in the South Land! I Only Like Two Songs from "Alan Bown"!, and that's, "Technicolor Dreams" b/w "Toyland" on MGM Records! Another Album from the U K is "World of OZ" on Deram Records! and that's, "The Hum Gum Tree", "The Muffin Man", "Jack" and "Mandy Ann"! People, because of this type of style on category of music, I have to throw in a group called "The Hobbits", here are favorite Songs on Decca Records, "Artificial Face", "Down To Middle Earth" and "Treats"! Five Songs I Dig on the Band "The David" on VMC Records, and that's, "Sweet December", "Professor Crawford", "So Much More", "Mirrors Of Wood" and "Of Our Other Days"! One More? OK! "Condello" on Scepter Records in 1966! Songs I Dig are, "Dr. Tarr Professor Feathers", "All You Need", "Guess I Better Go", "Oh--No--No--No", and "The Other Side Of You"! Just For Idea's! You Know, just check the Titles and Songs, if You like them, Good, if Not, Fine! That's all what it's all about! Thanks!!!
