The moment when Nicholas first sets eyes on Lily was absolutely breathtaking. It is like he is drawn to her by an invisible magnetic field and no matter what they do or where they go, they are meant to be together. Lily is living with the pain of losing her first love, David, in such terrible, tragic circumstances. She needs to let go of David before she can love again and, as she faces up to what happened to David, she finds that she has been linked to Nicholas way before she even knew of his existence.
I absolutely love the way that Petra March links all of her stories together, with coincidence and fate playing a starring role. The stories are so moving with deeply defined and emotionally damaged characters that leap off the page as if you are reading in 3D. Their thoughts and feelings are laid bare so we feel as if we know the characters inside and out.
A Dream of Lilies is a stunning addition to this remarkable series; A Touch of Cinnamon is a captivating series of love, fate and destiny that would melt even the coldest of hearts. Each book reads like an act of a play which, when read in its entirety, will have your heart calling for an encore. Bravo!
I chose to read an ARC and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.
This story follows the lives of Lily and Nicholas. They have both been going on with their lives but hiding their feelings from traumatic events of their pasts. The deaths of people they loved. Both events link them together, not that they know it at the start.
Lily is part of a travelling theatre group with her friends Zachary and Nancy that happens to travel to Nicolas’ town. The first moment he sees her on stage he is drawn to her – much like most men watching. Her ghostly white hair draws the eye along with her pale blue eyes. But the smell of smoke triggers a memory he would prefer to stay in the past making him rush away. If he feared he wouldn’t see her again he shouldn’t have as she soon arrives in his cafe along with her friends. Its like he feels a pull towards her, something his friend Willa can clearly see and enjoys pushing him towards. Bringing her a cinnamon drink and cookies does the trick of drawing her in. The smell draws to her while she feels the presence of Nicolas behind her. One smile and it seems they are hooked – well if they can keep their memories at bay and not run from them that is. It’s not until the day after that they meet by chance, to a point, both being drawn towards someone playing a violin in a park. You can see how comfortable they are with each other and soon are in each other’s arms. It would seem to be the start of something if Lily hadn’t taken a call that takes her away before the theatre group leaves. Though her leaving does kick start Nicolas into wanting to chase after her. It’s when he catches up to her that they come together for real but it’s also the moment where they find out how they are linked. Whether they can finally make peace with their pasts will determine whether they will have a future.
Interesting side characters that fill out the story well, coming together to give Lily a good ending from the heartbreak she held after her first love was lost. Eagan makes an appearance but I think it’s more to help create a link for Ari to reappear. Her former best friend who David, her first love, fell in love with while they were dating before he died. Someone who she needs to forgive for hurting her as they both lost the boy they loved. It’s not just them needs to come to terms with past pain, as Nicholas too needs to let go. Coming together will help them to come to terms and make peace with the past, which in turn will help them move forward.
I received this ARC from the author for my honest review.[...]

While this story has sadness at its depths, there is healing that finds itself woven in-between the two main characters, Nicholas and Lily. If you've read Petra's previous stories, then you've more than likely heard Lily's name and might know a bit of her background story, or at least, the background story of what causes her pain and sadness. If not, then I encourage you to visit A Veil of Glass and Rain and All the Skies I Will Not See.
Nicholas has suffered a great loss and every day, he finds himself reliving the tragedy of his own family and the one of someone he didn't even know, but witnessed. Lily has suffered great pain of her own, in heartbreak and in loss. When Nicholas and Lily meet, they find themselves in a sort of tug and pull situation, eventually helping each other to find the strength to begin the healing process and along the way, discover an event that will forever connect them.
This story, as I mentioned, has sadness at its roots, but I found it to be a beautiful story of healing and finding love in the depths of all the heartache and pain. This story, as beautifully written as it is, reminded me that at our most vulnerable state, we can find the strength to overcome whatever pain may come our way & the people who can help heal us.
The Touch of Cinnamon series by Petra March is one I highly recommend. You will be introduced to unique characters, rich story lines, and captivating imagery woven in-between the lines of the stories being told.
Nicholas has his own demons but when he meets beautiful actress Lily he feels hope. Hope that he had lost three years ago. She is perfect and he is falling in love. Although he is too scared to do anything about it at least not without a little encouragement. He feels that she like him too but what if he were wrong?
For Lily taking another chance at love is too much. If she let Nicholas into her heart who knows what he will do it. After all David broke it into pieces so it's difficult to try love again....
Soon they both realise that they are connected by more than their mutual attraction to each other. For better or worse their pasts are intertwined with each other. In order to move past the tragedy they share they must re-visit it ....
A beautifully written story, I enjoyed reading it a lot. Although I think it might be read as stand alone but knowing the previous history of the characters will make reading experience much better. So I recommend reading first two books before you read this one. But you can give it a try in any case. Petra March has a unique writing style which never disappoints me. :)
Lily and Nicholas both have past tragedies, but they meet by accident. Is it fate is it good luck. What ever this chance meeting is, it is breathtaking. I love their attraction, I love their story and I loved their common thread between these two lives. Like I said this book has a magical feeling to it.
This was a great, quick and beautiful read. It is full of heartbreak, love, forgiveness and beauty. Definitely a #mustread.
This is a really cute short read in which you can enjoy.
Lilly is an actress and Nicholas is a coffee shop owner.
They meet unexpectidly and instantly have a conection, but with them both having a tragic pasts they don't know if it is worth the risk.
It is a really cute story with a bit of love, heartache, pain, stuggling, understanding, and forgiveness.
