Arrived today. What a surprise. For the price you are not expecting anything that substantial. However Draper usually make decent stuff and this is the case here. Its very well made and feels solid. I bought it for Metal detecting around sandy/shingle areas and it shouldnt have any problem with that. I would imagine it will be good for light to heavy soils too. Anything harder more impacted might need a solid steel shovel. Delighted with this purchase.

for the price i paid for it i wasnt expecting much seeing as on many websited i have seen shovels like this going for near on three times the price, when it arrived i was surprised that the shovel is made from a very sturdy steel and the folding mechanisms are very easily operated. although there is a bit of a metallic clunk when you are walking around with it i dont think you will get a better product for this price of cheaper. it fits into its sleeve perfectly and the sleeve is made from a very tough waterproof material that can be placed on your belt with ease. the sleeves opening has two little metal buttons that you just press into place so there is no fiddling around with it. overall its a very sturdy piece of kit and i am surprised at the quality of it especially for the price. shows that the more expensive options arent always the better options.

After the bad winter in 2010/2011, My Partner and I agreed that with where he works, it would be a good idea to get his winter car kit upgraded, and when I found this Draper folding shovel, it sounded ideal, it folds to a small size so not too bulky in the boot, like some, has its own case that is really handy, and is a very sturdy shovel, with the jagged edge for cutting into ice, ideal for anyone who works in out of the way places, and might need to dig themselves out of snow and ice, or like us live on an unadopted road.

Excellent value for money.

So far have not had to use it, as no snow this year so far, but a big fan of Draper, very good products. ;-))))))

Sturdy, well made piece of kit. When folded very compact. Not too heavy at just under 1kg. I expect through use over time the painted coating finish will chip off, however it is a shovel for digging holes.

Folding camping or emergency spade/shovel. Great sturdy design, can be locked in the folded position so it doesn't rattle about and when extended it is very sturdy, heavy duty spade with a decent serrated edge that could take down a branch or small tree with little difficulty. It comes with a thick pouch that fastens with a button. On the back of the pouch there are two thick webbing loops so it can be worn on a belt. Extremely good value for money and weighing in around 1kg it is light enough for my backpack.

I haven't had to go into battle with it yet, but as things go, it is handy to have.
It doesn't appear to be of the absolute sturdiest construction, but for the price it is quite worth while.

I bought this for taking soil samples, as a regular garden trowel just won't hack it.

Feels like a quality tool, of surprising weight. I use this shovel several times a week, I leave it in the boot unfolded now. I can't say I have tried serious digging with it, typically this is called an entrenching tool but its small size means it is no match for a regular spade or shovel. Similarly, I don't think you will get far using one as a snow shovel, I suppose it would work in an emergency though.
