Bought this from Amazon Warehouse so got a couple of quid off was in undamaged box all originally bagged, present and correct contents so couldnt see why it was "used"!! I recommend checking the "used" option as what you save goes along way to a good set of bits :) Ive bought loads from Warehouse Deals and everything, but a missing drill bit for which they refunded me an extra 20% So I got 7 Bosch masonary drills for a fiver :) Everything else has been originally packed no box damage and contents wrapped as new so thoroughly recommend a look going on my experience!

The drill is excellent as a woman diyer with arthritic hands I found it very easy to use as it has a handle that attaches to the drill so allows me to hold it with two hands a big bonus as it would be too heavy for me to operate with one hand. it is lighter than alot of other similar drills and to me appears to be a solid well built piece of kit. Seems very powerful but Im no expert! Easily drilled some holes into an outside brick wall to mount a curtain pole, used Bosch masonary drill bits and found the two together made drilling easy and there was no having to lean into the drill and press hard to get it to go to required depth! Flew into the wall easily with hardly any pressure, so as a weak hand/armed person with a strong independent desire to do things that really I shouldnt attempt, has made me feel proud that I did it with relative ease! Hubby was on standby in case things didnt go according to plan and he tried it and said it drills better than his JCB cordless, which I cannot use as the battery alone on that seems to weigh as much as this drill! So well pleased that I got it so far seems excellent value for money.

This drill is my go to drill. I had a cheapo cordless Argos one for years that was more bother than it was worth. Always needing charged, never ready when you need it etc.

I wasn't sure about getting a corded drill, I thought it would be limiting. However the opposite is true. I've done more jobs in much less time because. It's very powerful (almost a little too much for basic DIY, i have the power dialed down for the most part)

    Pros:
    - great power which is there when you need it
    - nice thumb dial to control how much power is given
    - Feels well made and sturdy

    Cons:
    - can be too much power
    - can be a little heavy to use one handed
    - has a chuck key which is easy to lose

This was a good buy. It's a solid bit of kit and for DIY users will be up to almost any job you're likely to tackle. It sails through wood, brick and concrete comfortably and without ever feeling like it's straining. It doesn't get as hot as my last one either, which is reassuring. I haven't had cause to drill any metal yet but I have no doubt it will do just fine. You need to read the instructions especially if you've not used a hammer drill, and be very careful if using it as a screwdriver; you should use the facility to limit the speed or you will snap screws or ruin screw-driver bits, possibly both. The reverse function to help take screws out is a real boon if, like me, you like to take old furniture apart to obtain wood to make new items. So it's easy enough to use once you've read the instructions, quite solid feeling, heavier than many DIY drills, but not heavy enough to be a problem.

The only weak point or possible weak point is the switch to reverse drilling direction, which feels a bit flimsy. It hasn't broken but I will be careful with it as it doesn't feel as if it will take any abuse, accidental or otherwise.

If you've done little or no drilling before keep in mind that the hammer drill function should only be used drilling masonry and NEVER when drilling wood or metal; you'll shatter drill bits if you do and if drilling wood that too may send splinters all over the room. This isn't mentioned in the instructions but I feel it should be; some people who buy a drill don't know much about them, some are stupid and some buyers fall into both categories. You have been warned...

EDITED to add: I've now used this drill to make a number of pieces of furniture, and have acquired more confidence in it the more I use it. It's exactly what a tool should be, something you don't take much notice of because it just works. Use the facility to limit the speed if you're drilling wood, the highest speeds are for drilling metal and will cause a lot of frictional heating and can scorch or even set fire to wood. This ought to be in the instruction manual but it isn't. The detachable side handle slips easily and I put some silicone rubber tape around the neck of the drill to help it grip better; it's now very solid and stable.

I was looking for a new drill after my old JCB one got a broken trigger - and they don't do replacement parts. I've been spending a lot on the house lately so didn't want to spend a lot on a drill so was pleased I came across this one. It's a great price for a drill like this and seems very solidly made. I've used it almost daily drilling walls etc and it hasn't given a hint of a problem handling anything I've thrown at it.
However: 11/09/2010 update. I've had the drill since March and although it still feels solid and tight it's developed a problem with the chuck. The chuck mechanism seems a little coarse, as if it's not milled with tight enough tolerances; the result of this is that sometimes it's difficult to tighten at times causing the drill bit to work loose, then sometimes if its tight enough I can't undo it without a tap on the chuck key with a hammer. Not the end of the world but a nuisance.
