Product Description
Introducing the Draper 73397 900-watt SDS+ rotary hammer drill kit
The powerful 900-watt motor in this Draper 73397 SDS+ rotary hammer drill provides plenty of power for keen DIY enthusiasts. This well-built yet affordable power tool is capable of effortlessly drilling and driving into concrete, masonry, mild steel and wood.
So that you can get the most from your drill, the Draper 73397 900-watt SDS+ rotary hammer drill kit includes a selection of SDS+ and HSS bits, and SDS+ chisel bits.
SDS system
SDS hammer drills are similar to normal hammer drills but have an improved hammer action for a more powerful, yet controlled, hammer blow. The Draper 900-watt SDS rotary hammer drill features a control lever so that you can adjust the intensity of the hammer action.
This drill is designed to be used with bits with an SDS shank. SDS drill bits are usually more robust than regular bits and help to reduce slips, thus improving safety. An SDS drill allows the bit to move inside the chuck, directing power more accurately and efficiently. This results in better performance when drilling through substances such as concrete.
Hammer-to-rotary action facility
One of the most important and useful features of the Draper 73397 SDS+ rotary hammer drill is its ability to go from hammer action to rotary action.
To change from hammer action to standard rotary operation, all that you need to do is flick a switch. When it’s in rotary mode, the drill is ideal for drilling into wood, plastic or mild steel.
Adjustable side handle and depth rod
The Draper 73397 SDS+ rotary hammer drill is designed with an adjustable side handle to give you extra leverage when drilling. The handle can be rotated 360 degrees around the drill, which allows you to set it to the most comfortable position for your needs.
There is also an adjustable depth rod guide to assist with drilling to a predetermined depth.
Soft-grip handle and blow-mould carrying case
The handle of the Draper 73397 SDS+ rotary hammer drill features a soft grip to improve user comfort and to give you better control over the power tool.
Also, so that you can easily store and transport your tool, the Draper 73397 900-watt SDS+ rotary hammer drill kit comes in a blow-mould storage and carrying case.
Comprehensive kit
The Draper 73397 900-watt SDS+ rotary hammer drill kit includes a comprehensive selection of SDS+ and HSS bits, as well as SDS+ chisel bits.
The drill has a 13 mm large-capacity chuck and also comes with a special SDS+ chuck adaptor, allowing you to use SDS drills for greater power and user control.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 March 2012Don't normally write reviews, but this is an incredible piece of machinery. I have been working on renovating my flat and exterior garden for a couple years, front to back, and had a hammer drill previously. When I was trying to use it to install a piece of wood to hang curtain rod holders from in my concrete ceiling, the hammer drill wouldn't get past a centimetre, even drilling away for 5 minutes. Endeavouring to avoid handyman costs, I purchased this - and each hole was completely drilled in the concrete in less than 5 seconds. This device treats concrete like butter - and much less vibration than the hammer drill as well as being less heavy. I have used on other occasions with similar success - e.g. holes in the brick wall on the balcony to put in screw plugs. The array of attachments and sturdy carrying case for the product are just the icing on the cake. An excellent, excellent product and I hope that Draper will receive the recognition it deserves for this.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 December 2012This drill is very heavy to hold. It is strong and powerful with an adequate case and good choice of attachments as standard. You could do some serious damage to a wall with the if not careful! Highly recommended if you have strong arms. Quick delivery in a well packaged parcel.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 September 2010I have used several hammer drills in the past, including one Bosch SDS+ hammer driver for slightly higher price than this Draper. This drill is really good, it is now so easy to drill a hole in concrete walls/beams. It also comes with a lot of extra bits which could have cost another £30 or more if you buy the Bosch model.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 November 2010this drill was working ok but for some reason it has stopped and will not work.i dont think ive over worked it.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 June 2011Nothing special but it works. If you want an occaisional heavy duty rotary drill and SDS at a price then this will do for the average DIY type. If you intend to use it a lot spend more. It is better as an SDS than drill - when I want to drill I still tend to grab the B&D 750w drill for most jobs - this one is just too clumsy for all but the biggest jobs.
Limitations.
It's heavy.
It has only one speed.
It's basic.
Whilst it's solid, I doubt it would last professional use.
AMAZON. Come on sort out your packaging on heavy goods; 4 heavy/big packages all received shredded. Had to return the first drill because the plastic carrying case was busted and I was worried that the drill may have been damaged. It looked like the packaging came apart and the drill fell out, crunch! Replacement was in a similar state.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 April 2014On using the drill I found it to be really powerful and very much up to the job of drilling in reinforced concrete. I was also impessed with the array of tools/drill bits supplied with the drill. Excellent value.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 December 2012The sds drill bit got stuck in the chuck and I had to send it back. I also lost an expensive drill bit.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 February 2015Good, powerful drill. I've used it for drilling into block walls (which it cuts into like butter) and breaking concrete which it handled admirably. The front handle broke after several uses but the drill itself works just fine. There are two switches: one to control whether the shaft turns and one to control the hammer function. The drill has no speed control so it's either on or off and, most disappointedly, it has no reverse. The bit selection is pretty good and the inclusion of a conventional chuck means it can be used with regular bits too, though the lack of reverse limits the usefulness of this. The lead is a also a little short: I find I have to use it with an extension more often than not, however the cable is nice and thick.
I don't regret buying this drill: for the price it has been excellent at breaking concrete and the occasional hole drilling around the house. However, it cannot serve as a general purpose drill: it's not ideal for drilling into wood, for example, as it has no reverse, no speed control and is quite bulky and heavy to handle.
