Recently, I needed to repair an old 60's record player from Braun where a wire had become loose in transit...I could see it was a simple matter of soldering it back. Being an infrequent user of soldering irons I had neither solder or an iron to hand.
This kit came with everything I needed and at a great value price - the tweezers I used to grab the wire, a simple metal stand so the iron doesn't burn my kitchen table, a sponge, some solder and of course the iron itself. I plugged it in, it worked, I had a working record player. I'll probably now loose all the bits as it sits in a drawer for the next 5 years. Regardless, peace on earth was restored.
The set comes with a simple but effective stand but with such a bulky cable I have had occasions where the iron has fallen off and rolled along my desk (luckily no harm done). I would recommend spending a few more pounds and adding this to your purchase Silverline 427552 Soldering Iron Stand Base, 85 x 125 mm
Don't be alarmed by the sponge when you open the packaging, just put it in some water and watch it com to life :) .
My review is 3 stars because I have not found any issues with the product but it certainly isn't anything to shout about but for the price what more can you ask.
The stand is terrible, 1 piece or metal (wire) fits into two holes Just via pressure. Rest assured this didn’t last me more than 1 use, so I lost the stand.
Heating and cooling time is good though and small head good for small gauge soldering.
If you just need to solder a couple of things get this if cheap enough, otherwise get a good one with nice stand.
Heats up nicely without too much of a smell and work efficiently at bringing the solder to liquid.
The stand is a bit cheap in quality but I just hang the iron off the bench taking caution.
Comes with enough solder to last a good few jobs!
Despite having no experience of soldering, I was able to replace the faulty socket with a new one and put it all back together in about 30 minutes. The guitar works fine, and the jack plug now clips firmly into place! I don't know how it compares to other soldering irons, but this seemed easy to use, and came with everything I needed at a good price.
The Iron came with a basic stand, solder tweezers and a tip cleaner and performs perfectly.
