Product description
The highly acclaimed PC-RPG The Dark Eye: Drakensang was awarded "best German game" and "best German RPG" amongst many others. Drakensang: The River of Time features all-new adventures in the medieval world of Aventuria, based on one of Europe's favourite RPG systems: The Dark Eye. The prequel's story of Drakensang: The River of Time leads players to events that took place 23 years before the original Drakensang game's events. As a young apprentice, players meet the young dwarf Forgrimm and many other recognisable characters. Nadoret is in the south of Ferdok at the big river. In addition to the well known archetypes you will find two new classes of heroes: The Geodes (rare Aventurian druids of the dwarfs) and the Gjalskerland inhabitants (tenacious and hard barbarians). Another innovation is the so called miracle: Sanctified of the twelve Aventurian gods can send for divine intervention.

I found the original Drakensang game (The Dark Eye) very hard to get in to. I restarted several times because as I discovered more about what I could actually do in the game I found myself wanting to revisit areas to explore things I had missed, but the first Drakensang wouldn't let you do that...
Thankfully this second instalment allows much freer movement. The fast travel option is particularly welcome, especially in the large cities when you find yourself on one side and wanting to go directly to a place on the other side (running through the same streets over and over got a bit boring in the first game).
Quests are interesting from the beginning and you don't have to play deep in to the game before you get immersed in the story through the liberal use of cut scenes and speech from the characters you meet. Places you have `completed' remain of interest by the introduction of new people, quests and services which appear as you progress further in to the story. The harvesting of regents is now less of a pain too as they grow back and you aren't stuck with a finite supply.
I have never played the paper RPG this game is based on and I feel that actually mattered in the first game as it punished you mercilessly if you had no idea what you were doing. I feel this instalment is much friendlier, and if you don't discover potion making until you are 20Hrs in to the game it doesn't really matter, where as in the first you had probably missed out of getting some key recipes by then and couldn't go back...
No crashes for me yet (XP Pro 32, 4GB RAM, GTX 460)
Strictly speaking, this is a prequel to Drakensang, but it is as visually pleasing and easy to play and the story is interesting, with just enough choices to be made along the way to make it replayable.
It is rated a 16, but the violence is not gory and the drug references that so many games warn about on their packaging are actually the potions that you need to make or buy, and imbibe to survive.
There are numerous witty asides between the characters as you go along to add interest.
This is a thoroughly enjoyable game that stands alone for those that haven't played the original Drakensang - that is also well worth playing - and is not a disappointment for those that have.
I hope there is another to come in the series.
The first thing you notice is how good it looks, the graphics are perfect.
Party controls are a little hard to get used to at first but after a while of practicing there are no more problems.
The story is interesting but you will find that some decisions you make have far reaching concequences to the party members you let live and which ones die.
The games engine is smooth with no crashes in all the hours I have been playing it.
I would definitly recomend this to any who like game such as Dragon Age etc.
One piece of advice invest heavily in upgrading your willpower as this determins if you get injured during battle and you will soon find that without doing this you will be killed nealy every time.
I hope this was of help and that you enoy the game as much as I did.
This a large, party based, fantasy RPG that is comparable to Dragon Age Origins. Indeed, it's a real sin that Drakensang is not nearly as well known as Dragon Age because Drakensang is arguably every bit as good.
(The only niggle I had with the game was that I did get a 'Nebula3 System Error' message every time I closed the game. This didn't affect playing the game though.)
Drakensang - The River of Time is a true joy. This game and the original are must-buys for all RPG fans.
it has a sort of economy - prices change with what you sell
and it has gotten over the slugginess of the predecesor HUrRAY!
Characters have more depth. you live on a ship instead of a house. less party characters to chose from.
story is fun and there serious sidequests - storyand length wise.
