This is one dark Dragonball Z movie with the story of future Trunks' past. It has the story of how all the other Z fighters die and Trunks' struggle for survival against the evil androids. Easily the best dragonball z movie i have watched along side The Story Of Bardock (Gokus father). Very detailed, action packed a MUST have.

This really is an amazing piece of work, and is a must have for any DBZ fan. However, originally this was actually aired on TV in Japan, therefore when it's put on DVD it feels a bit empty. The story ends with Trunks going back in time, and then that's it. There are some scenes from the original anime in the credits, but not enough. It would've been nice if they had done a short summary of Trunks' time in the past and then shown the footage of Trunks coming back and killing the andriods, but no such luck.
This is my favorite piece of DBZ, and i would love to recommend this to a first time viewer, but really you need to know the story and have seen Trunks going back to his own time in the series, because if you haven't the ending feels really empty. The plot, translation, animation, voices etc all get 5/5, it's just a shame that the fact it's a TV special rather than a film makes it feel so shallow at the end which made me give it 4/5.
Definately worth watching if you have seen the series.

In this TV-Special we learn about how terrifying the Artificial Humans were to humans, underpowered Trunks was and that Gohan lost his life trying to train Trunks to defeat the Artificial Humans.

This pretty much is just another origins story just as is the TV-Special of Bardock, but in this case it's not that great although for fan it's always nice to see more content, I'd say.

By the way, this has Japanese credits but no eyecatches, and when Trunks is fighting No. 17 & No. 18 the screen has a weird flickering which happens on every release (even the Dragon Box) so it's an issue that was part of the masters that never got fixed up.

Like the father of Goku movie or tv special id never seen this before and when i finally got the chance to buy it i watched it right away. this movies explaines what happended in future trunks's timeline and how he became a super saiyan before appearing in the trunks saga of the dbz series.

I have seen both the American and Japanese versions of the "Trunk's Special" and I believe that changing the dialogue, action, and music should not be done. The rap music is definately out of place because no rap music was used in the original. The dialogue should be as close as possible to the original because it takes away from the original story, or it changes the characters slightly as I have noticed from other DBZ episodes. I am very grateful that Funimation was able to see the incredible potential in DBZ, and that they decided to dubb it for the American audience, but I believe that Funimation does not have a right to change the story or dialogue so much. ( "Hercule"??? Ewwwwwww, what an awful name) If you can get the japanese version, you will get a better show, but if you can't, you might as well buy this video.

I enoyed watching this dbz feature. It expleains how the future of dbz would be like if Son-Gokou dies and the rest of the z warriors as well. So it is up to Trunks and Gohan to stop the androids because they are the only z warriors alive. And if you are a mirai-trunks fan, you should enyoy this video because it shows his past and his first super saiyayin transformation.
