This starts with a beautiful descriptive first page with words such as 'iridescent gem colours' a treat for the visual sense. The appearance of the Dragons immediately grabs the reader. It is so original to read of the morphing of the dragons. Vedicville is again so visual and the characters of Spires little Tindal and Petalou fairly leap off the page. The dragon hosting is quite mystical and really captures the imagination. Without giving too much of the story away Thol's metamorphosis was electrifying. Loved LIsta the healer and Hisaran's healing. Thol Rasdor and the puppies are enchanting. This has eloquent prose and a fast paced plot. Thoroughly engaging. Deserves the highest star rating.

I cannot thank the author enough for letting me read and review their work, as I concider myself to be extremely fortunate for book one of the Dragons in the mist series, Dragon Soul was an incredible, outstanding read. Any avid reader of the fantasy genre from epic fantasy to more modern works cannot fail to be impressed by such a book, that raises the bar high with its originality and uniqueness as it stands out amongst others. Contrary to other authors such as Anne McCaffrey, Christopher Paolini and Stephen Deas, B J Whittington has created a niche within the literary world where Dragons are optimized as something entirely new and different. The portrayal of these magnificent beasts within the storyline is both captivating and astonishing. This rather dense six hundred page novel certainly kept me busy as I lost myself within the most thrilling, exciting adventure of a lifetime and a new world that is so utterly remarkable and brilliant.

Dragon Soul begins in a small village of the Palmir people (a quiet, productive and peaceful Vedic clan with an almost forgotten violent history). It serves as a place to mentor Dragon souls and hosts and humans who transform into Dragons, beginning with the surprise transformation of one of the village youths. Soon the quest begins to seek out the missing transformed human containing a Dragon soul where the unexpected is uncovered, revealing devastating secrets that concern their entire civilization. To be a Dragon Host is at once a tremendous honor, and a life sentence that is binding as soon as the two entities become connected through flesh and blood. Events thrust the reader into epic battles between Dragons and the creatures seeking to destroy human and dragon alike.

I must admit this book is like none I have read before. There is a real sense of living with people of the village and becoming part of the lives. The author skilfully draws you in and tells the story from many points of view.
I'm just about to get the second book for I feel like I would like to see where the story will continue. I'm hoping for a bit more action in the second book as the first although it has action does more to set up the basic story that leaves you wanting more.
I would recommend this book if you like to read stories that enchant you and make you feel part of the characters lives.
