500 years ago, the sadistic Romanian count, Vlad the Impaler, returns to his castle to find it over-run by Turks and his wife captured. He sells his soul to the Devil to save her life and is turned into a monstrous demon. He lays waste to the Turks but his victory is short-lived, as his wife revives just in time to see him dragged off to Hell.
Don't let the great cover art fool you (it's the ONLY) good thing about this film. The cover claims THE IMPALER is "A unique and original horror" and this picture actually is the 2013 winner of "best feature film" at the Sunscreen Film Festival (the jury was obviously sky high on drugs). Can't be that bad then, can it? WRONG. The best bits of DRACULA: THE IMPALER (which still are far from good) are the flashback scenes about how Dracula became a vampire, which add up to about 5 mins. max. which leaves you with 74 mins. of utter boredom and 4 mins. of ending credits. The main part of the movie revolves around a group of annoyingly stupid teenagers (the slasher movie type) that spend a weekend at Castle Dracula, only to be butchered one by one. Dracula only plays only a supporting role and is rarely seen on screen and horribly miscast (Gregory Lee Kenyon/Teo Celigo make a very very poor Drac). The acting overall is very bad, the characters are the typical slasher movie type you don't care about at all. I prefer the Hammer classics with Christopher Lee (nobody makes a better Dracula!). THE IMPALER has no atmosphere at all. I don't know where it was filmed but it definitely was nowhere near Transylvania (the cast and crew probably didn't even leave the state, much less the US). THE IMPALER offers no significant historical background, Dracula in the "present" of this movie is only a possessed body of one of the teenagers. It reminded me somewhat of WARLOCK III - THE END OF INNOCENCE, just much, MUCH worse (at least that one had Ashley Laurence in it!). THE IMPALER does deserve an award, though: it probably is the worst Dracula movie ever made. Buy (or as a serious Dracula fan you will already have them in your possession) Hammer's Dracula movies (even DRACULA 1972 AD and SATANIC RITES OF DRACULA are far superior to this!)instead. THE IMPALER has NO redeeming values whatsoever. I really regret spending 7 bucks on this.
Again, one star to Amazon for usual amazing service. The film is another matter. Total load of rubbish. Filmed on location used in 80 's Duke's of Hazard series scenery, trying to make you believe it's Transylvania. Usual rubbish acting, plot, direction, scenery, etc, etc..... Don't waste your money. Started cutting my toe nails in first 10 minutes, after 30 I was looking at cook books, that's how much this film grabs you.
I ask the rhetorical question "What Dracula?" because this film isn't really about Dracula at all. Veronica (Diana Busuioc) is Dracula's lover. Arriving at the castle is an assortment of American teens, including one she thinks is the reincarnation of Dracula. To bring her lover back from the grave she has to kill each of the teens in some way similar to the 'sin' that dominates that person's life. So the glutton has his mouth stuffed, and so on. The 'slut' - that's an odd one because she has the side of her leg cut open and lots of women tear that wound open. That makes no sense. Anyway, Dracula and vampirism play next to no part in this film.
If there was such a thing as trade descriptions to contact over this rubbish, then it should.be told...this is not a vampire movie, it doesn't have vampires and there is no Dracula....it is a complete fabrication designed to cheat vampire fans. Director Derek Hockenbrough should be barred from films.....and as for the script.....torrid and boring as one other reviewer said. It says on the box 'The original vampire returns'....a unique and original horror....what was original about this waste of time...it had the semi porn insert, and tried to be a slasher film but failed...mainly because it lacked vision and had an awful script that kept pretending it was in Romania and in Dracula's castle...which seemed to have about three rooms....and special effects?.......did the money run out.....whatever the case, this thing should not have been made.
