"Bad horse, bad horse, bad horse, he's bad..." Ahem. Sorry, you caught me rocking out to some music from Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog there. Good times. You know, I think that possibly everything that Joss Whedon does gets turned into a comic - Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse (yes there was a mini-comic in the DVD case. I'm a nerd)... And so it's no surprise that we go so very very easily from Bad Horse to Dark Horse, Dark Horse Comics that is.

This so very much had the potential to be bad, and if you've never seen the web series itself then you may be confused... but that's not my problem. Who are these strange people? Why do we care what someone called Penny was doing before we met her in a laundrette? Why is Captain Hammer such a tool? Oh... ahem... yes I've only just got the joke.

Fact is, or at least the fact as I define it, is that each of these five stories - featuring early events from the lives of Captain Hammer, Dr. Horrible's sidekick who goes by the name and description of Moist, Penny, The Evil League of Evil, and of course the bad Doctor himself - is genuinely amusing, great fun, and illuminates characters that you always knew you wanted to spend more time with.

The blurb on the back puts it well: "...it leaves you wanting more of this universe, these characters, as Whedon's worlds tend to make people do". Of course there were three Whedons involved in creating this world, and this comic was written by Zack Whedon, who is just as good a writer as his more famous brother... he tells us.

The first story introduces us to Captain Hammer's homespun philosophy, which is not really something you should teach in school ("Have a friend that excels in math and science? Report him!").

Let's start of with telling you what's wrong with this comic book...there's no music. This is my only complaint but considering that this is a comic book it's not a very big one.
This tell various tales from the Dr. Horrible universe...such as Moist's origin and why Penny's single. It's has all the humor of the webseries and the artwork is spot on.
This is a great addition for any Dr. Horrible fan but it does make you want the sequel even more!

it is a shame Dr horrible has still not been released on DVD over here but at least we can enjoy this graphic novel which adds to the story of the web series and is a fantastic addition to the series. I am sure all Whedon fans will love it too

While web-musical (is that a genre?) to comic book doesn't seem like the most obvious of transitions (ignoring the fact that everything Joss does ends up in comic book form eventually), the decreasing likelihood of a Dr Horrible 2 mean it may be the only way of getting more content.

Luckily what we have here is an excellent collection 5 of (sadly sometimes too short) stories, featuring all your favorite characters from the original, including the sadly under used Moist getting an origin story!

The artwork is excellent, really brings the characters to life and the stories are well written. Each character looks and acts as you feel they should following the series and the standard of humour is maintained well.

It probably won't replace a sequel, in fact probably makes me want one more, but it's an excellent read. Much recommended.

Of course what is missing is the singing... I'm assuming you'd be expecting that though...

As a huge fan of the source material, I was really excited when this finally arrived at my door. Containing a selection of "origin" stories of the characters in the amazing Dr. Horrible's Sing-along Blog. Whilst the charm of the source hasn't been fully captured here, enough of it remains to make this a fantastic, albeit short, read. One thing which struck me was the amount of referencing to the video, with plenty of foreshadowing or neat little nods, this is definitely a companion piece rather than a standalone comic, but quite frankly, if you haven't already seen the musical then you really need to re-evaluate how you spend your free time!

After initially being a fan of the sing along blog offerred online i was dissapointed after hearing everything up in the air so to speak about a continuation on the storyline or even a prequel, needless to say talks are still going on so there is still hope.

Right here we are, the booka itself is a collection of various ministories set in the dr horrible universe featuring such 'villains' lol as johnny snow and even an appearance by the thoroughbred of sin himself, and the heroic james flames. Along with some favourites. The collectiona themselves are very well illustrated and storys kept true too the universe, another case of whedon genius if youre a fan, if not then this will appeal to all fans of quirky humour or of the whedons writing skills.

The inks and drawings are individual per tale and allow the readers a sense that the drawings are hand lovingly
Done.

I hope this convinces every1 to give it a go as its an exciting trip worth a read!
