What people have to say about DOTTY: "Author Emma Warner-Reed has penned a magnificent children's book with suspense that builds as young readers are drawn into the mystery surrounding Dotty's new home. Dotty and the Calendar House Key is highly recommended for home and school libraries and has earned the Literary Classics Seal of Approval." Literary Classics "Dotty and the Calendar House Key has truly fired my daughter's imagination for the first time since Harry Potter. Beautifully written and exciting. The Secret Garden meets Diagon Alley. Fabulous!" Alexandra Vere, Harrogate "I really liked the [first] book. It was a bit scary when Dotty found herself in Uncle Winchester's private study. But most of the books I read are a bit scary so that was okay. I would read the other books in the series. Go Team Dotty!" Betty, age 7, Amazon "My son has just read the first [book] and thinks it's brilliant - high praise since he has very decided opinions about what he reads." P. Uglow, Harrogate "Enchanting, innocent and lovely with just the right amount of modern technology...a great read for a grown up 7 year old! She loved it... When is the next one coming out?" A. Little, Amazon "I read [the first chapter] to the children tonight and they were instantly back to being as gripped as they were by the first book. They both laughed out loud at the wonderful descriptions of Gobby in the kitchen covered in flour (again) and the way she asked Kenny to remove Geoff! They cannot wait to find out what happens next." J. Johnson, Stallingborough

This charming story had me hooked right from the first chapter. A wonderful story filled with the kind of mystery every child longs for: with the huge house to run around in and explore, and the strange things going on, and of course a touch of magic. The perfect combination.

Dotty is just nine and a half years old, entirely too young to have lost both her mother and father. Now she's been carted off to her Great Uncle Winchester's creepy old mansion, the Calendar House, far away from her childhood home and her best friend Sylv. The two friends Skype, but it's just not the same as when they once spoke to each other through the paper-thin partitions of their building with a glass pressed to the wall. Dotty can't help but get the heebie-geebies whenever she hears odd sounds coming from within fireplaces which are scattered throughout the Calendar House. The cook assures Dotty that what she's hearing is just jackdaws nesting in the chimneys, but Dotty can't help but wonder if it's really something else. As Dotty explores her new home she discovers hidden secrets within the Calendar House.

Author Emma Warner-Reed has penned a magnificent children's book with suspense that builds as young readers are drawn into the mystery surrounding Dotty's new home. This book is fabulous! I was lucky enought to meet the author at the school where I work and bought a copy to read to my children aged 7 and 11. I began reading it to them that night. We finished the book in a week! My plan was to read one chapter a night but we couldn't put
it down! My children love to read and be read to but I have never known them be so excited as they were when I was reading this book to
them. They couldn't help shouting out excitedly when a thought occurred to them about what might happen next (which happened often). We had to read two or three chapters a night because it was just too exciting at the end of each chapter to not read a little more. Last night when we finished the book my daughter wanted us to start back at the beginning straight away.

We are now eagerly awaiting Dotty and the Chimney Thief!

My nine year old twin boys were hooked in the first chapter. It has been a while since a book has had this effect and we are all (me too) looking forward to bedtime/story time now!

My eight year old son loved this book. We know the author, but that fact alone isn't enough to keep a child reading! He read it over three nights (and stayed up much too late on the last night to finish it!) A great read, and lovely to find a book that engages boys of this age without resorting to the usual stereotypes - we are looking forward to the next one!
