Safety WarningNot recommended for cats and dogs under 8 weeks of age or pregnant and lactating females. Caution should be taken when administering to exotic cats with low body fat as very occasionally hyperactivity has been induced.
Frightened, anxious, hyperactive and stressed animals can be calmed quickly using this easy to give liquid. Dropped into the mouth, given on food or even just a few drops sprinkled on a pet’s bedding can result in a more amenable pet, so visits to the vet, travelling or moving house instantly become less stressful situations. Cats particularly love the smell of Valerian Compound, so administration really couldn’t be simpler. The concentrated herbal extracts used in this liquid ensure that within just 30 minutes a noticeable change in behaviour occurs without causing drowsiness and the effects are quite short lived. In situations that have a longer duration then we recommend also giving Scullcap and Valerian Tablets. When faced with unexpected events like thunderstorms, Valerian Compound has a fast action and it can also be used in conjunction with Scullcap and Valerian Tablets in especially fearful situations and for phobic animals.

Valerian is a sedative, nervine, antispasmodic and relaxant. The sedative properties are due to the effects on central nervous activity, rather than muscle relaxation.
Believed to possess anti-depressant properties and can therefore be used to help ease anxiety by soothing and restoring the nervous system.
Mistletoe (not the berries) is widely used in Europe particularly, it helps circulation and to calm the nervous system.

We had two relatives staying with us over Christmas from 23rd – 27th, plus two more relatives on Christmas day, plus two children on boxing day as well.
My partner and I were worried about his stress levels and that this would cause him to behave in a fearful way (barking / growling / lunging).
Following advice from the Charity that Rescued him we set him up a “safe room” with his crate in it, covered with a blanket, and put a baby gate on the door (we did this about two weeks before guests were due to stay so it wouldn’t be a shock to him). This meant he could see what was going on in the house but people couldn’t approach him but he could come up to the gate if he wanted.
We started him on VetSpec - Calm & Focused Dog Calmer Supplement 2.5ml with every meal about two weeks before our guests were due to stay. We gave him Dorwest Herbs Organic Valerian Compound for Dogs and Cats 5ml about 40 minutes before anyone new arrived. We used an Adaptil Dog Calming 48ml Diffuser in his safe room and we used a Thunder Shirt on him for up to two hours every day guests were staying.
We let him meet all new guests on a lead, outside our house, and encouraged them to give him high value treats (frankfurters in our case).
He behaved very well throughout the 4 days. He was stressed and did bark occasionally, but he mostly stayed in his safe room, and we kept to his regular routine as much as possible. By day 4 he even approached my sister in law and did “tricks for treats” with her.
I can’t say which one of these products had the biggest impact, or if it was a combination of all 4 and the installation of a safe room, but whatever it was – it worked. He was far calmer than I would have expected him to be in such a confusing and scary environment.
I am against unnecessary use of drugs, but those are herbs, and I strongly believe that if you use them at the very beginning or a stressful event, it will help your dog to take it easier and to maintain the calm attitude, while you slowly decrease the dose. As you stop, your dog might decide a potentially scary thing was not so scary after all.
