Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Told about life as it was and what happened to people at the time. Made you realise how hard life was then but how people at the time just treated it as normal and got on with life no matter how hard it was. Have enjoyed previous stories in this series as well.

All the same information about Dorothy is already in the sweethearts book. So I thought it was a waste of money.

All these stories about the women who worked for Rowntrees in York. All very interesting, but would have been better in one book as the introduction and concluding passages are the same. Intrusive insertions of convertion of money. Pity the author didn't check her facts, but perhaps born too recently. Cocoa beans came from the Gold Coast not Ghana for most of the characters portayed. However a good read.and will open a lot of people's eyes to the way Quaker owners supplied all the needs for their workers.

I thought this story was going to be fictional but was surprised it was based on real people who had worked at Rowntrees. I love black magic and it was interesting to see how they were mad.

Good, clear and brief account of life during the last war in a busy industrial area and the standards that had to be maintained by employees at that time. Good personal glimpses.
