I love the clamshell shape its good for keeping the keypad covered and saves having to lock the keypad.
Setting the phone up is child's play. The only difficulty I had was inserting my sim card into the slot as it was so near the memory card slot. Apart from that it was very straightforward.
The instruction booklet is well laid out, the instructions are clear and easily understood and are also a good size print.
The weight of the handset is slightly heavier than the majority of the mobile phones on the market but has a nice "chunky" feel.
The keypad buttons are very clear and well spaced so good for larger fingers
The choice of colours for print is very innovative I.e. White print on black background, Black on white, yellow on blue, yellow on black, which is very helpful for reading text, The choice of the size of print is another useful option.
The volume control is easy to use and using the T button on your hearing aid cuts out any interference.
The battery life seems as good as comparable mobile phones.
One outstanding feature is the ICE button which stands for In Case of Emergency this connects you to designated people in your phone book to alert them of a problem.
To me this is a great phone for older people
Lovely large non-slip keys, well spaced, easy-to-read screen and a ring tone as loud as you want it! The instruction book is easy to understand too.
I have a tremor in my hand and it is ideal for me. I would recommend this phone to anyone who doesnt want all the fancy gadgets, just a reliable, smart mobile. Also has functions for emergency contacts etc, so ideal for the oldies like me.(late 50s!)
Nothing not to like at the moment.
Large keys to operate even when spectacles are mislead.;-)
Good sound.[ not tested with "Hearing aid"]
It is thicker than the "smart phones" but fits very nicely in hand.
The mobile was delivered ahead of its allocated time.
I am very happy with it & recommended it to my friends.
If you use your phone as a phone, not a computer, not an entertainment centre, not a film studio, not an amusement arcade, and you want something that is nice and straightforward, with decent sized buttons, the Doro 614 should put a smile on your face.
I found it very easy to set up, and generally simple to operate. My one criticism (and I think this is the same on all Doro phones) is that there's no decent visual separation between the "up" and "down" buttons, they are both on the same black patch. As a result, I find that my clumsy fingers sometimes hit the bit in between without realising it. If the two were separated by a white plastic area, the same as all the other buttons are, this wouldn't happen, I would see that I've hit the wrong bit straight away and would try again.
I'm lucky, my eyesight is still pretty good at short distances, so for me the nice sharp text is very easy to read at the "normal" setting, but the "large" setting is doubtless appreciated by those less fortunate.
I haven't tried dropping it out of a first floor window but it seems fairly solid, I'm comfortable being my usual careless self with it rather than treating it as carefully as a new-born babe, I reckon it will stand a few knocks, and the clamshell design minimises the danger of expensive screen damage when it's not actually in use.Read more ›
