Amanda Fox is a young girl pulled from the life she knows and dropped into Godfrey Hall, an old house with a secret on the South West coast of England where it never seems to stop raining.

Totally gripped until the end

Wow, I was on holiday and I had ran out of books to read, I downloaded this onto my Kindle, I was totally gripped from the beginning to the end. I describe myself as an avid reader of all genre of books but I hadn't read anything of this calibre, I am certainly not a young adult or teen, this however made no difference to the intrigue and mystery to the plot. Readers of all ages would enjoy the suspense of how Amanda is going to escape from the Mosaic in her dining room, it does sound very bizarre that a story can be so enjoyable which centres around a mosaic. The author keeps you guessing until the end with many twists and turns, I thought that I had sussed the ending but i was wrong, this shows the talent of the author who wrote this book. I look forward hopefully to reading more from this extremely creative writer in the future.

A brillant read from a new author

I started to read this book and could not put it down as I was gripped from the start to the end, the story has many twists and turns and keeps you turning the pages.
The author has told the story so well and is very descriptive, so much so that the people come alive as you read it. You begin to feel like you are in the story with them. This book has been written by someone who knows good English.
A must read, it would also make an excellent christmas gift. I think we will hear a lot more from this young new author.

Not just for the "young adult" reader

Although I probably can't catagorise myself as a "young adult" anymore I was keen to see what this debut novel had to offer and was not disappointed. Alice brings this story to life with imaginative detailed description of the world in the mosaic which will appeal to a wide audience of mystery readers. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and can't wait for this new authors next novel - she's one to watch out for.

This was a book that kept me engrossed from start to finish. Alice J. Black develops the characters and the setting superbly and is set for a big future in the literary world. Numerous twists and turns keep you on the edge of your seat and reach a crescendo when we learn the history and secrets of the 'mosaic'. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a dark, suspenseful thriller. A roller coaster ride that would transport well to the big screen. All in all, a rollicking good read. I look forward to the next one.
