I loved what the author did with the story, the twist with a modern theme and I love second chances.
Laire is a fisherman's daughter for a small town island when she meets the governor's son Erik, their life couldn't be more different, but opposite's attract.
Laire always wanted more in life than her sisters and father wanted, she wanted a life off the island and more than to marry an islander man, she wanted to follow her dreams.
So when she meets Erik he might and possibly be her Prince Charming, after spending the summer lost in each other, but with every fairytales there is evil, jealousy, hurt, betrayal and loss.
So will Erik and Laire be able to forgive and forget the past and have their own fairytale ending.
This was a sweet innocent love story with all the subtle hints of the Little Mermaid, but different with a more grown up feel.
This is a poignant tale of a young woman's desperate attempt to escape the only world she knows and make a different life for herself. Also the struggle of a rich young man to conform to society he was born into.
Their separation was heart-rending, with Laire raising a fatherless daughter unbeknownst to Erik who's exorcising his own demons. Their reunion was extraordinary beautiful.
Katy Regnery is an outstanding wordsmith. Five stars.
“There are moments, she mused as the wind swept her hair back and the spray of salt water landed on her skin, when the whole world feels perfect.”
Laire, Laire, Laire… I’m pretty sure Laire Cornish is one of my absolute favourite heroine’s EVER (and not just in Katy’s books, I’m talking ALL books)!! I absolutely adored her. From her island background, her passion for life and wanting more, to her innocence, her willingness to push the boundaries, yet still maintaining respect for herself and her family. Just everything. She is funny, quirky, sassy, artistic, clever and so so kind.
“Glancing back at him, she scanned his face, and he got his first really good look at her… and quickly realized that his little mermaid wasn’t just pretty. She was a knockout.”
Erik Rexford, again, what can I say? He is brilliant. So he’s the Governors son, but he’s really not what you would expect at all. Right from the get go, you can tell he is something special, and you just know he’s going to be a good one. He’s hugely down to earth, kind, compassionate and thoughtful. I really liked how good he was with his sister and his friends, who are such important parts of his life. Yet he doesn’t appear to let the position his family is on overly go to his head.
The love that Erik and Laire have for each other really is what fairytales are made of. It is pure, passionate, tender, sweet and loving. It is the kind of love that totally consumes, seeps into every pore, fills every crevice and hole in your mind, heart and soul. A powerful, thought evoking love which simply cannot be compared…
“It was like being swept away on a current he couldn’t fight. He could either move with it or he could drown.”
I don’t want to say too much about the storyline, as I couldn’t bear to ruin a single part. But be sure the story flows perfectly from start to finish – you won’t be able to put this book down. I loved the structure of the book with the 2 parts… but that interlude was something very special. I loved it!
Katy Regnery really is the master of her craft, she tells a tale so full of passion, so full of life. She will break you and she will mend you again. This story will take you on alongside Erik and Laire, on a journey full of hope, dreams, courage and discovery.
Pure beautiful romance at its very best!
