" Look Behind You" is a brilliant title for this emotional story about the psychological and physical abuse of women.

One story arc is about the women sheltering at "The Willows", a women's refuge: the stories about their lives of terror waiting for the next attack from their "loved" ones. Quote: "They manipulate you, they smother you with love and affection... and by the time you realise who they really are, it's too late. They have you. They have taken your life, your friends and your support system are gone. They grind you down until you have no self-esteem". If you're a fan of "The Archers", think Rob Titchener.

Carla is a counsellor at The Willows. She too is running away, from her husband Ryan. He savaged her and killed her daughter, but has just got out of prison.

Then there's Detective Sergeant Eden Berrisford, who is leading the police team looking for a man who is brutally assaulting young women in the town. She too has a shady husband, whose back story may return to cause her to lose her job.

This is a tense, slow-burning psychological thriller with an explosive climax. It's extremely realistic and full of menace. A great read.

Wow, this is another emotional roller-coaster of a read. Mel Sherratt never fails to keep you on the edge of your seat! Having read, and loved, The Girls Next Door: A gripping, edge-of-your-seat crime thriller (Detective Eden Berrisford crime thriller series Book 1) I couldn't wait to read book 2. I was quite confident that I would love it and I wasn't wrong!
If you haven't read book 1 as yet, then I would recommend you do so, before reading Don't Look Behind You ,as certain aspects of the story follow on from Book 1.
I have thoroughly enjoyed catching up with Detective Eden Berrisford again. She is a brilliant and very likeable character. She's highly professional and loyal to her colleagues, always determined to keep the residents of Stockleigh as safe as she possible can. She's also a mother, a sister, an aunt and her family mean the world to her. I hope (and I'm sure there are) people like her on our local police force.
Eden and her team have quite a challenge on their hands when three women are brutally attacked within a few days of each other. Are these attacks linked or just random? As the team try to piece together the facts before anyone else gets hurt, Carla is trying to piece her life together and move on from her abusive husband, which will prove more difficult now that he has been released from prison. She knows he will come back for her, but she's determined not to let him get the better of her again.
Will Eden catch this savage attacker before he gets the chance to hurt anyone else and will Carla ever be able to move on with her life without constantly looking over her shoulder.
Don't Look Behind You is a fast-paced police procedural, with short chapters adding to the intensity of the story.

img_1258I have eagerly been waiting for Don’t Look Behind You, the second in the Detective Eden Berrisford crime series since reading The Girls Next Door, and OMG it was certainly worth the wait. I’m actually going to say this is definitely the authors best book to date. Don’t Look Behind You is dark and very disturbing and at times I found it damn right harrowing which I have to say I wasn’t expecting. What I love about this authors books is her ability to take very credible plots and give them a gritty realism that make her books impossible to put down. At times I became so involved in the plot my heart was racing, I felt anxious and I’m sure at times I was having palpitations as the author expertly weaved her gripping tale.

Three woman are attacked in the most brutal way, as each act becomes more violent it’s up to our protagonist Detective Eden Berrisford to find the perpetrator before he strikes again. Eden is your typical fiction Detective, feisty, passionate about her job and the victims, she’s also very determined, but what makes her standout from other fictional detectives is her back story, a single mother with a husband gone AWOL you learn more about her in this book and you can’t help wondering as more details emerge when is her past is going to come back and bite her on the backside. Eden and her team make a credible one and I hope as this series progresses we will learn more about her team. What I love about this authors writing is her ability to create characters that are very true to life. I became emotionally involved with Carla a woman who suffers terrible abuse and unbelievable heartbreak, her character unfortunately was very credible, as were the rest of the woman in the refuge.

This was a very good story. I really like Eden, she gets the job done. The characters are really good. The style of writing just flows, just my type of book. Kept me interested all through. I hope Mel writes more books about Eden.

I really enjoyed it. Though it was a bit heavy at times
The story line keep you wanting to read more from the beginning, the scenes depicting the abuse of the woman came across as very realistic, making you feel for the women.
It was good to see the key characters coming across as strong at the end with the men getting the tables turned onto them.
I would highly recommend this book, look forward to more
