I would recommend this book to all Christians who are looking to deepen their faith and who are trying to expand their prayer life
I felt it went a little downhill at the end with a chapter about Revival which didn't really say much, and somewhat contradicted itself. I then found the appendices, about setting up a 'prayer ministry' so overwhelmingly complex and structured that I mentally and emotionally backed off!
Somehow the writing style made it feel like an early 1980s book, although to my surprise it was first published in 1991. Not that it's a topic that dates, particularly, other than the appendixes where the author recommended, among other things, a 'rolodex' - I had to Google to find out what one of those was.
Recommended to anyone wanting an in-depth look at prayer. The author addresses some tricky questions that are often asked about prayer, with a clear and friendly style, concluding that while God does not need us to pray, he undoubtedly uses prayer.

The book is balanced with many common sense tips and helpful insights from the author.
The author begins by saying "I discovered that prayer is not a religious exercise - it is a human necessity." and I fully agree wit it.
He continues, "I discovered that prayer is the secret weapon ... It is like a missile that can be fired toward any spot on earth, travel undetected at the speed of thought and hit its target every time."
For what can we pray? Bible encourages us to pray about everything. "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you."
"Worry about nothing, says Paul, and pray about everything" (Philippians 4:6)
At times, the author shares quotes by other authors, like Dr. Curtis Mitchell, "Prayer is set forth as the chief task of the believer. It is his responsibility to ask. it is God's responsibility to accomplish."
The author emphasizes that we are urged to ask for what want and while we may ask for anything, he suggests that what we ask should be in accord with God's will. He also points out that the more godly our lives are, the more powerful will our prayers be, and that while our prayers are answered immediately, they will be delivered in the "fullness of time", when the time is right.
I the chapter on Why God answers prayers, the author quotes "And whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son." (John 14:13)
In the chapter on fasting, he mentioned few verses from the Bible where Peter, James and John attempted unsuccessfully to cast the demon out of the boy. After Jesus arrived on the scene and delivered the boy, his disciples asked Him privately, "Why could we not cast him out?" And He said to them, "This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting." (Mark 9:28, 29)
The author then shares different kinds of fasting mentioned in the bible, lasting 3, 5, 7, 21, or 40 days, some being complete abstinence from food and water, most being water or liquid fasts, and some being abstinence from some kinds of food, but not all.
On account of intercession, the author says "We are never more like Christ than when we are praying for others." He goes at great length to describe what the prayer is and isn't and how to go about praying. The author also recommends that the reader reads as many other books on praying as he can.
