This book ticked all the boxes for me!
A feisty Mature heroine - not the usual long legged, figure to die for type, more your 40 year old with a few less than perfect bits. Someone willing to take risks and enjoy life - A real woman in other words.
An Alpha Male into Bdsm with a stubborn mindset but a heart of gold who can actually cook as well!
Plenty of " hot action" for a cold October evening.
An actual storyline which was cleverly worked and held my interest throughout.
Good supporting characters I'm guessing there may be a few sequels - I would love to read about what kind of woman Ian ends up with!)
A sense of humour throughout.
This was an entertaining read which was worth the bargain price!

I had doubts when I first started reading this, Mercenaries for hire with the Dominant lifestyle ---a bit too close to my favourite series but I thought I'd give it a try.

Grace is a 40 year old widow with two children at College and is described as being "curvy, with sagging breasts and being middle aged! I found this insulting! 40 is NOT middle aged.

It went down hill for me rapidly. I found the dialogue between Sean & Grace mundane, forced and at times like the writer had no clue how to create chemistry.

Sean is a Dom, Grace is a "fantasy" sub, she lives the lifestyle through her e-reader but Sean of course can recognise her submissive "traits" being that he's trained for years. He is undercover and Grace being the admin to Sean's target, Grace is the key.

I found it robotic and at the narration failed to flow for me ---"" he could hold his breath for a very long time"" Did I miss this being an Olympic sized pool?

I'm sorry to say all this happened at 23% and I had to abandon it.

Sean Taggart works for McKay/Taggart Security Services. The team take on a case investigating Patrick Wright and to get to him they investigate his brother and his secretary Grace Hawthorne. As we see with the rest of the team in the future books, these men are not good at keeping their hands off their marks.
Grace is not your usual female lead in erotic romance; she's a plump, 40 years old woman with 2 children at college and Sean is 8 years younger than her. Of course she finds it hard to believe this "Viking God" could be interested in her. I liked Grace but she was a bit whinney. She was told off for topping from the bottom and being manipulative and immediately after she got herself in the slave pose on the bed again to top from the bottom. Sean was an ok character but I wasn't immediately drawn to him, what made me read onto the next book was curiosity about other characters from the team who I preferred.
This author, in my opinion, is similar to Kaylea Cross and Cherise Sinclair. As in their books, we meet a group of people and each person is then the focus of their own book in the series; each book has it's own suspense plot but underlying the whole series there is a deeper running plot which we gradually learn about but isn't resolved until the end.
What lets this book down for me is the characters, they just aren't compelling but I am going to read the rest of the series. The plots twist and turn continually leaving you unsure who is right, whether the mark is innocent.
The author has a sense of humour which had me laughing on occasion too. The humour was there in the banter between the Security team mates mostly:
"He was such a mass of contradictions. He was a big, strong warrior who knew how to handle a gun and make a piecrust from scratch.

This is the first book I've read by this author. I found the writing style to be fine, albeit a bit blunt and lacking description. The plot was full of action, intrigue and mystery – lots of double crossing ex-CIA agents, money laundering and hot private security agents. There was even a murder or three. That was all fine, exciting and it did keep me reading...

My issue was the relationship between Sean and Grace. I liked Grace and felt a great deal of empathy for her – she's a forty year old widow who believes that she's past her prime with two college-aged sons. She lives a simple, lonely life in the suburbs. She works in admin and dedicates her working life to propping up her pathetic, alcoholic, boss. She's one of those women who gains her own self-worth from nurturing and looking after others – from taking calls from her grown-up sons begging for money to working her ass off to meet every ridiculous whim of her boss... she felt vulnerable. And then in comes Sean, a thirty two year old, gorgeous, confident ex-serviceman working undercover. It's his job to try and get close to Grace to expose her and her boss's secrets. Sean brazenly seduces her against her better judgement and introduces her to BDSM. Only on the side, he and his security pals are planting bugs in her home, copying her hard drives and drugging her so that when she sleeps, they can break in and look around her home. He even had the audacity to collar her, claiming she was his 'soul-mate' in the middle of it all!

I'm hardly an expert in BDSM (although I've read enough fiction on the subject!), but from what I gather, trust is the absolute lifeblood of the relationship. And the bottom line is that Sean completely and utterly abused Grace's trust.
