I will confess that I struggled a little with the first two in this series. I loved the idea of ex-special Forces guys running a CIA linked investigative agency and that they're all doms. I love the covers and the James Bond themed titles but, even though I appreciated the first two books, I never fully connected with the characters the way I expected to. I was still invested enough to want to continue and I'm so glad I did because this one is a winner.
The McKay-Taggart gang are all in London hot on the trail of the rogue CIA agent that nearly killed Sean and Grace in the first book. They're sending in one of their own to seduce the assistant to Thomas Molina, someone they believe has gun-running connections with their arch-nemesis and the lucky agent is Liam O'Donnell. Liam has secrets and tragedy in his past and he needs answers. I loved Liam, I loved the way his Irish brogue emerged when he was getting emotional. He's fierce, protective, possessive, bossy - a perfect Dom.
He's sent in to seduce Avery Charles, innocent secretary to Thomas Molina. Avery is an awesome heroine - she's a girl who has lost everything, built herself back up and lost everything again only to spend the best part of ten years getting herself back on her feet. She's an innocent soul who's taken a lot of knocks and is only too lonely and ready when a big, bad dom comes along to charm the pants off her!
I was a bit uncomfortable with Liam and how aggressively he sought her submission in the first place but I understood why he did it and, once he'd finally managed to seduce her, the book started to hum like a finely tuned machine for me.Read more ›
Avery is very sweet and naive well she starts off that way. Liam changes thing's by teaching her how to be a Sub. He's battling his own demons mainly his past. The loss of his brother and Ian's (his boss) hand in a failed mission resulting in death and destruction. Liam I thought was a bit too intense and at times selfish.
Although this story was about a Dom/Sub relationship it more like mercenaries first then bdsm.
There are still a few books in this series but I'm gonna leave them for a while cos the the men and the stories are becoming repetitive.
On Her Master's Secret Service (Masters and Mercenaries)book 4
The plot is full of surprises; we do find out near the start that Molina is not who he says he is but the full truth is a surprise. Liam is rough around the edges and when his Irish accent comes out he's even more sexy. Avery is tenacious and refuses to let her past ruin her life however until she meets Liam she has been holding back and not enjoying herself.
There's sex, lust, crime and violence and in the end, there's love "We don't know who we really are until we meet the people we're supposed to be with. They can drag us down or they can lift us up."
This author, in my opinion, is similar to Kaylea Cross and Cherise Sinclair. As in their books, we meet a group of people and each person is then the focus of their own book in the series; each book has it's own suspense plot but underlying the whole series there is a deeper running plot which we gradually learn about but isn't resolved until the end. The plots twist and turn continually leaving you unsure who is right, whether the mark is innocent.
Again, there was humour in this book in the banter between team mates which I found amusing, for example:
"We tag team on the baby making. It's my sperm's turn next time"
A real emotional roller coaster of a book, a couple of humorous moments early on before the real plot takes hold. The twist and turns are brilliant written. When you have CIA, MI6, MI5 and G2 all involved in a plot it leads to lots of double dealing and intrigue that keeps you hooked to the end. What Liam did to the baddie at the end surprised me though. (Won't spoil the plot and divulge.)
Can't wait to start the next instalment 'On her masters secret service' Alex and Eve's story.
