Book 3 in the Masters & Mercenaries series and this one is definitely a winner and the most exciting story so far.

I will confess that I struggled a little with the first two in this series. I loved the idea of ex-special Forces guys running a CIA linked investigative agency and that they're all doms. I love the covers and the James Bond themed titles but, even though I appreciated the first two books, I never fully connected with the characters the way I expected to. I was still invested enough to want to continue and I'm so glad I did because this one is a winner.

The McKay-Taggart gang are all in London hot on the trail of the rogue CIA agent that nearly killed Sean and Grace in the first book. They're sending in one of their own to seduce the assistant to Thomas Molina, someone they believe has gun-running connections with their arch-nemesis and the lucky agent is Liam O'Donnell. Liam has secrets and tragedy in his past and he needs answers. I loved Liam, I loved the way his Irish brogue emerged when he was getting emotional. He's fierce, protective, possessive, bossy - a perfect Dom.

He's sent in to seduce Avery Charles, innocent secretary to Thomas Molina. Avery is an awesome heroine - she's a girl who has lost everything, built herself back up and lost everything again only to spend the best part of ten years getting herself back on her feet. She's an innocent soul who's taken a lot of knocks and is only too lonely and ready when a big, bad dom comes along to charm the pants off her!

I was a bit uncomfortable with Liam and how aggressively he sought her submission in the first place but I understood why he did it and, once he'd finally managed to seduce her, the book started to hum like a finely tuned machine for me.

Liam O'Donnell works for McKay/Taggart Security Services, everyone bar the profiler is ex special forces. The team all go to London in a continuation of the twisting long standing plot which runs through the series. With Sean, Adam and Jake now married, another member of the team needs to get close to the mark and seduce her. The mark is Avery Charles, personal assistant to Thomas Molina whose charity may be involved with criminal activity. Liam gets closer to Avery becoming her lover and Adam and Jake do their gay best friends routine to get to know her (they are great in the role). We see MI6 in this book working along side the team and bringing potential characters for future books.
The plot is full of surprises; we do find out near the start that Molina is not who he says he is but the full truth is a surprise. Liam is rough around the edges and when his Irish accent comes out he's even more sexy. Avery is tenacious and refuses to let her past ruin her life however until she meets Liam she has been holding back and not enjoying herself.
There's sex, lust, crime and violence and in the end, there's love "We don't know who we really are until we meet the people we're supposed to be with. They can drag us down or they can lift us up."
This author, in my opinion, is similar to Kaylea Cross and Cherise Sinclair. As in their books, we meet a group of people and each person is then the focus of their own book in the series; each book has it's own suspense plot but underlying the whole series there is a deeper running plot which we gradually learn about but isn't resolved until the end. The plots twist and turn continually leaving you unsure who is right, whether the mark is innocent.
Again, there was humour in this book in the banter between team mates which I found amusing, for example:
"We tag team on the baby making. It's my sperm's turn next time"

Like other reviewers I struggled to fully get into the first two books in the series but being a fan of the genre I stuck with it feeling like it had promise. I'm really glad that I did because Lexi really stepped up her writing with this third book. The characters have more depth including the secondary characters and you get a better feel for who they all are. If anyone has like me read just the first or second books then I really recommend sticking with the series as you see an improvement in quality with each book and the stories sizzle.

A great addition to the series. You really get a feel for the bond the members of McKay-Taggart security have for each other in this book. All these tortured soles searching for something special in their lives, finding it in the most unexpected of places. Both Liam and Avery's tormented pasts mean they are resistant to following their true feelings to start.
A real emotional roller coaster of a book, a couple of humorous moments early on before the real plot takes hold. The twist and turns are brilliant written. When you have CIA, MI6, MI5 and G2 all involved in a plot it leads to lots of double dealing and intrigue that keeps you hooked to the end. What Liam did to the baddie at the end surprised me though. (Won't spoil the plot and divulge.)
Can't wait to start the next instalment 'On her masters secret service' Alex and Eve's story.

Ok let me start by saying that Lexington Blake really out did herself here. Liams' story was brilliant so well paced and had a great mixture of love suspense thrill and laughter. It continues on from the Men with the golden handcuffs, London is the setting and we meet a couple of new characters one being Avery the heroine who has the biggest heart in the world. Eli Nelson is up to his old tricks and causing the team heart ache. In this book I fell more in love with Ian Taggart he once again shows both his serious get the job done attitude and his great big wounded soul. I was crying in some parts of the book for him.

Anyway read the series because it just gets better and better each book. Can't wait for On Her Majestys secret service. All in all read this book if you enjoy a good thriller or a hot erotic love story.
