I bought my first copy at a store for some light holiday reading and enjoyed it so much I felt my grandchildren would too. It is nice easy reading not a very long story but long enough. About a slightly disabled boy who desperately wants a dog. His Dad (a vietnam veteran with painful memories of his own) is not so keen. Mum as per normal is caught in the middle and tries to stay neutral (don't they all??). A great story with a message for all of us and a true story I am told. I have bought several copies of this book so that says it all.A Dog Named Christmas

What a wonderful story, especially nice if it is read at Christmas time. I am keeping this copy in my "library" and will make a point of reading it next Christmas.

It is about a boy with learning disabilities and his father who has issues about having a dog because of his own heart breaking experiences as a young man during the Vietnam war. They adopt a dog from the local rescue pound for the Christmas period and end up arranging placements and long term homes for the rest of the dogs in care.

The story is about the dog himself and how he chooses the family just as much as they chose him.

I was in tears at the ending it was so lovely!

This is a charming and heart-warming novella, carefully crafted with the rough hands of an amateur writer, and none the worse for that, for what I mean by amateur is that this writer really knows and loves his subject and truly immerses the reader in the history and nature of the little community in which this warm tale of friendship, faithfulness and love is so gently nestled.

When I ordered this book I did not realise that it was a novel. I usually only purchase biographies or autobiographies, so when it arrived I was a bit unsure. However all that dissappeared as soon as I started to read it.
It is a BRILLIANT story. It is tender, heartwarming and an inspiration. If only everyone was like this towards dogs. I loved it and would thoroughly recommend the book to all dog lovers and those readers that want a really good book to immerse themselves in. I am sure you will love it as I did.
Would make a great stocking filler gift at Christmas time too.
Since writing this review I discovered the DVD of this book - get it and watch after you have read the book - it is great!!

I bought this after seeing the film on TV recently. It was very accurately reflected in the book and is a heart-warming story with a christmas theme that on occasion brings a tear to your eye. A very relaxed read.

I really enjoyed this book as it was so touching but yet with an edge to it that put it firmly in reality. It had a feeling to it that just warmed your heart even though within it were the harsh realities that some sweet dogs must face but showed in this particular dogs life how he really did 'come home'. I also liked the way it showed how dogs so often are able to help us humans understand the world more if only we would let them. Great book great story and I am sure you must see how I love dogs !
