Totally recommend this book for every dog owner who wants to understand their beloved pet.
I bought this book in the hope it would give us answers and it does...by the bucket load! I was so eager to find out how we can tackle the problems that our little dog has that I read this book in a morning. No sooner had I finished it that I put into place the recommendations on how to stop her barking when someone comes to the door. We have a terrible problem with Lilly who barks if a leaf flies past the window!
I can honestly say after an afternoon of doing what Nigel recommends ..thanking lilly for letting us know there was someone there..looking out to see who it was letting her know we were taking charge of the situation, putting her into the other room for her to chill down... by the time my hubby came home she didn't even get up out of her basket!! Incredible results already!
Thank you Nigel for taking the time to write a highly informative book that gives real solutions to problems so many other dog owners face..... you wont be disappointed with this book, peace and harmony and a happy home is around the corner!
Reed writes with a bouncy, straight-forward prose that is easy to comprehend, even when more complicated psychological ideas are discussed. The book is wide-reaching and all-encompassing in its discussion of all things dog-related, beginning with a brief exploration on how dogs are descended from wolves and discussing the ways in which this heritage could affect their behaviour today.
Reed also proposes new models and theories regarding the training of dogs, such as how to understand their needs in a new, hierarchical format. New insights into what motivates bad behaviour is also present in the text, with potential to really change the way we, as dog owners, guardians and lovers, interact with our furry friends. Reed’s approach is stoutly non-violent and it is clear that a love of dogs is at the very heart of this work. The guide comes with a series of videos in which Reed walks owners through some of the solutions to many common behavioural issues. These videos add some sparkle to the book, as Reed’s personal dynamism is really able to shine through as he takes the stage in a series of hands-on demonstrations.
This is a well-researched and informative book, complete with statistics and clear diagrams.Read more ›
There are conflicting opinions out there, all from 'experts'. Nigel's approach combines the role of pack leader and positive reinforcement of training.
Bess, my dog, is already pretty well-behaved, but she does love to jump up at people. Hopefully, armed with the information and techniques from Nigel's book, we'll be able to put a stop to that. I say we, as it's a family task, plus friends and other visitors. I'll have to train them to train Bess!
