I purchased this book after reading th an article in The Daily Telegraph about a dog owner and problems with cats. I liked the approach by NIGEL REED (author and dog behaviourist). Having two dogs myself with different behaviour issues I decided to give this book a read. I was pleased with the ease in which it is written and now feel I can continue with helping my dogs. They have come a long way in the past year with the help of a dog trainer, now armed with how to understand my dogs' language I feel better equipped to help them become well behaved and more relaxed with themselves. I intend to liaise with N R through his blog and let him know how it goes.
Totally recommend this book for every dog owner who wants to understand their beloved pet.

I can honestly say this is the most easy to follow and informative dog training book you will find. We have been desperately looking for information and help with problems we are facing with my sons dog who we initially were only looking after for 6 months..two years later they are still travelling and now the dog is living with us full time.
I bought this book in the hope it would give us answers and it does...by the bucket load! I was so eager to find out how we can tackle the problems that our little dog has that I read this book in a morning. No sooner had I finished it that I put into place the recommendations on how to stop her barking when someone comes to the door. We have a terrible problem with Lilly who barks if a leaf flies past the window!
I can honestly say after an afternoon of doing what Nigel recommends ..thanking lilly for letting us know there was someone there..looking out to see who it was letting her know we were taking charge of the situation, putting her into the other room for her to chill down... by the time my hubby came home she didn't even get up out of her basket!! Incredible results already!
Thank you Nigel for taking the time to write a highly informative book that gives real solutions to problems so many other dog owners face..... you wont be disappointed with this book, peace and harmony and a happy home is around the corner!

Bought this book for help with my year old hyperactive lurcher. Beautifully easy to understand and have started the training with promising results already. Love Nigels quiet approach to understanding our canine friends. Would highly recommend this as a great training aid alongside his videos and blog.

The Dog Guardian is a hands-on, comprehensive guide to achieving the perfect relationship with your dogs, whilst ensuring that their well-being and happiness is paramount. Nigel Reed, author and expert, demonstrates his passion for dogs from the very first page, where a heart-warming introduction details how Reed decided to take his love for animals further by pursuing a career. This book is the accumulated result of years of experience, research, and work in the field of all things canine.

Reed writes with a bouncy, straight-forward prose that is easy to comprehend, even when more complicated psychological ideas are discussed. The book is wide-reaching and all-encompassing in its discussion of all things dog-related, beginning with a brief exploration on how dogs are descended from wolves and discussing the ways in which this heritage could affect their behaviour today.

Reed also proposes new models and theories regarding the training of dogs, such as how to understand their needs in a new, hierarchical format. New insights into what motivates bad behaviour is also present in the text, with potential to really change the way we, as dog owners, guardians and lovers, interact with our furry friends. Reed’s approach is stoutly non-violent and it is clear that a love of dogs is at the very heart of this work. The guide comes with a series of videos in which Reed walks owners through some of the solutions to many common behavioural issues. These videos add some sparkle to the book, as Reed’s personal dynamism is really able to shine through as he takes the stage in a series of hands-on demonstrations.

This is a well-researched and informative book, complete with statistics and clear diagrams.

Very informative book that tells you in a nice simple way how to communicate with your dog.
There are conflicting opinions out there, all from 'experts'. Nigel's approach combines the role of pack leader and positive reinforcement of training.
Bess, my dog, is already pretty well-behaved, but she does love to jump up at people. Hopefully, armed with the information and techniques from Nigel's book, we'll be able to put a stop to that. I say we, as it's a family task, plus friends and other visitors. I'll have to train them to train Bess!
Recommended.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Such a useful book with easy to follow steps you can put into practice immediately. Once we started we saw improvements straight away. By day 3 our rescued american bulldog Lola, who pulled like a train previously was happily trotting along by my side on a loose lead... She's also now walking passed dogs on the other side of the street with barely a glance something that would have previously seen her lunging to get to them... can't wait to see what we can achieve by day 7!
