Enough with the ‘Limited Editions’, it’s meaningless, tagging an item as ‘Limited’ just forces people to panic buy, others take advantage and buy multiple copies for resale. What does Limited Edition even mean? They’re not numbered, Who cares if you press 10,000 copies or a million? I don’t care. Everybody who wants to enjoy this set should be able to - at a sensible price. The BBC should just press another few thousand copies, they know a lot of people never managed to get hold of this before it either sold out or was withdrawn from sale, but that doesn’t seem to matter, all that matters is selling as many copies as possible as quickly as possible. As for people reselling this for 5 or 10 times the original value - the word to describe them is unpublishable, sadly.
Tom Baker is absolutely brilliant as the fourth Doctor in Season 12, with great acting and storylines while the BBC production team were in the middle of budget cutting. The season features 5 great episodes, all of which I found to be really great stories.
To those who are complaining saying that the current price is "extreme" and that the BBC are trying to get hundreds of pounds from buyers - the copies that are going for these high prices aren't being sold directly from the BBC via Amazon like the original cheaper stock was, these are resellers who are charging inflated prices. The whole point, as given in the original title of the product, is that these are "limited edition", the BBC aren't just going to keep supplying them non-stop direct to Amazon like they would a normal blu-ray! Also I constantly see people saying "far too expensive when we already have the DVDs" - please remember most people, especially newer viewers, don't have all the old DVDs, and this is the first time they've been released as full seasons, and the first time on Blu-Ray!
While the BBC have admitted that there are audio issues on Disc 3 and issues on Disc 5 with video transitions and spelling mistakes in the credits, let's be thankful that they have actually taken the time to correct these issues and supply replacement discs to those who have been affected for free.
Overall, this is a great season of Doctor Who, and I would definitely recommend it for anyone who is thinking about entering the world of Classic Doctor Who and building up a collection of the programme! I can't wait for Season 19 to join it in November!
I purchased it for the fact that its an entire series in one box and the extra features that were included. A lot of the features are taken directly from the DVDs but theres some new stuff thats worth watching.
For example, the Behind the Sofa featurette for each story, watching and hearing the opinions of past stars as they watch the episodes (as well as Liz Sladens daughter) was fantastic and its also sad as Liz Sladens daughter said she is OK watching her mums early episodes but she cant watch the new stuff (post 2005) yet.
i have received the corrected discs through the post and it only took about 2 weeks to arrive
The next limited edition blu ray set is season 19, i`ll buy it but id much prefer Tom Bakers season 13 !
This is one of the best seasons of the classic range, just behind the "horror" season with pyramids of mars. This is brilliant and to make it better I had two copies, one I bought and one I was given. We paid £29.99 for both on here and they are now selling for well over £120. I gave one to a friend, who sunsequently sold it and gave me £50, half what he made. So I have my copy and a huge profit. What more can you ask for?
For fans of the best loved of all the Doctors this is the best way to view these stories, now with a better picture and sound than when they were first transmitted.
