An excellent guide to the essence of beauty the freedom to create it and an argument for its power and importance to the soul. --Tim Smit, The Eden Project

As it is it comes across as the personal musings of someone taking themselves too seriously, but within the cover of a more broadly appealing 'Do' title. Really disappointing after other 'Do' books.
But this is not some self-help guide full of instructions. Rather, it's a series of surprising and engaging stories. I'm amazed at how widely Alan roams to support his ideas. From the inventor of Aikido to an astronaut to the guy who made the computer mouse. I think he demonstrates that design, and the search for beauty are both ordinary and extraordinary at the same time.
More stuff here about the author
This book is a series of thoughts about the value of good design, why taking care of what you produce is of value to both creators and consumers.
There is much that I recognise about myself in Alan's writing the curiosity and the thirst to learn that is inherent in many people with dyslexia. I love the Go Sees and willingness to embrace serendipity.
Alan is a huge fan of Apple and uses examples of their industrial design philosophy and whilst I agree about the attention to detail in the hardware I think that it is lacking in their recent software.
All in all this book is an enjoyable read which left me wanting to delve deeper into the themes of beauty, craft and quality.
