This film it should be said from the outset has nothing to do with Sergio Corbucci's original "Django". It is a completely unique film by the director Giulio Questi, who was apparently not impressed when the producers retitled his film from "If you Live, Shoot!" to "Django Kill" to cash in on the enormous popularity of "Django" at that time. This was one of some forty opportunistic westerns to use Django in the title. Talk about overkill! At no point in the film is the main character played by Spaghetti favourite Tomas Milian ever referred to as Django. He is simply 'the Stranger'. The film has to be a candidate for one of the weirdest Spaghetti westerns ever made, in what was generally a pretty weird sub-genre. If the American western is simply a myth of an old west that never existed, then the spaghetti western is it's acid trip inspired naughty cousin. This particular film falls somewhere between the hysteria of "Johnny Guitar" and the demented excesses of "El Topo".

The story starts with a gold robbery and some nasty double crossing, where the half breed hero played by Milian is shot and left for dead with his Mexican friends. But the stranger rises from the grave to set off in pursuit of his betrayers, who enter a town that the Indians call "the unhappy place". Now the indians have a durn good reason for calling it that, because this town makes Sodom and Gomorrah look like a girl guides jamboree, nothing and nobody is safe as the gang and our hero soon find out. Throw in a gang of black clad homosexual cowboys that all resemble Dirk Bogarde from "The Singer not the Song", a seemingly mad woman who has escaped from the pages of "Jane Eyre", a prophet of doom talking parrot, and things get mighty interesting.
