I read this book quite a while ago, when it first came out. It is quite a short book but still stands out as one of the most memorable books I have read. The author suffers some sort of massive stroke that disables him so much that the only ability he has left is to blink one of his eyelids. This book was dictated by means of him blinking once for the letter 'A', twice for the letter 'B' and so on. I still marvel how long it would have taken to even dictate a few words to the person who helped him write this. One of those books which really gets to your emotions and makes you feel 'how lucky I am'.

I have read this book twice before.
I find it totally inspiring. It plumbs the
depths of human suffering and demonstrates
that in the midst of it all the victim of such tragedy
finds humour in his plight.
I now buy it for gifts.

Truly amazing when you think that this guy has only the blink of the eye to issue commands to his assistant to write this book for him.
The book itself is short but does give the reader a first hand account of Bauby's experiences, some in a light hearted way, some on a more serious note. A good read.

This book took two months to dictate, with the Author's left eyelid the only muscle not paralysed by 'Locked in Syndrome'. Certainly an insight, but also a glimpse of the Author's personality and life. By the end of the book, you do not want to take anything in your life for granted.
