5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best of Any Edition 8 May 2015
By The Peripatetic Reader - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostoma consists of the preparation and a celebration of the Eucharist and is recited every Sunday morning in virtually every Orthodox Church in the world. There are many editions of the Divine Liturgy.

What sets this edition apart from others is that it contains the meditations of the priest during the service and while preparing the Eucharist. In many ways this is the most important part of the service, because they record the priest’s invocation of the divine connection to transform simple bread to the body of Christ.

These meditations are sometimes inaudible. Indeed, some editions do not contain these meditations, merely printing the word “inaudible” within parentheses. For the parishioner these meditations may indeed be inaudible; sometimes those meditations are spoken in Greek, Russian, a Slavic language, or any language within the Orthodox community. Here, the priest’s meditations are in plain, modern English.

The introduction containing the biography of St John Chrysostoma is somewhat disappointing because simply consists of his Wikipedia page.

Sill, this is one of the best editions of the Divine Liturgy. It is a necessary addition of every Orthodox Christian’s library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Holy, Holy, Holy. 9 Nov. 2012
By Ignotus - Published on Amazon.com

I am very grateful to Amazon for making available The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom. It is one of the Classical Eucharistic Prayers found in the Church. This really is Prayer-in-action. Both Bishop (Priest) and Congregation unite in one solemn act of adoration, thanksgiving and praise to the All Holy One. This is not meant to be read- it must be prayed or else not touched. It is sacred. With this Divine Liturgy we are in another world- this is not for the frivilous, empty-headed seeker after thrills. It is most serious. There are few words that can describe it- two would be: HOLY and profound ADORATION. Getting involved in the Divine Liturgy you are getting involved with God !! Chrysostom warns us: tread warily- take off your shoes, you are on holy ground. If this is not your reaction, you have yet to learn how to handle such things as The Divine Liturgy.
Ignotus.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent details of the entire Holy Communion 13 July 2014
By david a. orriss - Published on Amazon.com

This is complete and detailed; and clarifies the prayers the Priest offers in a
lower voice during the service.
All churches following Apostolic Succession utilize this format to
varying degrees.
Truly a wonderful Blessing for all Christians.

This is great way to have on hand in order to view and read the Orthodox Divine Liturgy. I recommend it highly. I especially enjoy reading THE DIVINE LITURGY at any time.

...the text is slightly different from the services we follow in hawaii...and adding notations on when to sit/stand/kneel would be helpful to church visitors... :)
