I've summed up in the title what I feel the sound of this album is; a meeting point of the sombre soundscapes of Boards of Canada and the solid yet gently melodic sound of Lusine. Tycho's sound is very polished, perhaps even too polished, but really I have only one criticism of this album.. however neat it's sound quality and clear the ability of it's producer is, it simply lacks the diversity or experimentation of either a Boards of Canada or Lusine album.

Don't get me wrong, this album has some very good music on show, but as an album it's too simular. It's opener, 'The Hours' takes us into Tycho's classy melody-soaked world effortlessy, before we sadly begin to drift into predictability. Futher highlights do appear though, in it's closing; in the final three tracks we are treated to the sublime 'Adrift', where the BoC influence is most perfectly realised and made their own; and to finish, the masterful 'Elegy' takes you away with it's sweeping melodies.

Nick Warren used a few of this album's offerings in his lastest 'Soundgarden' show. This, I think, is the best way to experience this album; as a selection of rich pickings to play in amoungst other favourite melodic tracks, from the likes of Ulrich Schnauss, Melorman and Pantha Du Prince, perhaps. Then I really feel we can get the most out of Tycho and trully dive, and remain entrenched, in their rich productions.

overall then, it's 4/5 from me.

A really relaxing chillout album. I thoroughly enjoy just kicking back and getting lost in this one. I personally liked "a walk", "daydream" and "coastal brake" the most, but they're all great tracks. Would recommend.

Good background music. Inoffensive, laid back, a little reminiscent of Boards of Canada or Ullrich Schnauss perhaps? Worth a listen.
