Product description

About the Author

Though Jack Comeau has made his living as an Emmy Award-winning Lighting Designer for TV and Film, he has stayed close to his seagoing roots. His grandfather was a Grand Banks fisherman from Nova Scotia. Jack has spent years crewing old New England schooners much like the one that appears in this, his first novel, DISTRESS SIGNAL.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding! 16 July 2012
By Al D - Published on Amazon.com

Born and raised in New England this book hits very close to home. It was actually very educational as well in regards to the whaling history. Jack's descriptive style of writing allowed me to actually visualize the story as it progressed from scene to scene. I could feel George's anxiety as a typical cubicle worker in one of the many office buildings in Boston, I've been there! I've also been to many of the establishments mentioned where George and his coworkers blew off some steam after work. I could feel George's first steps on the cobblestone roads of Nantucket and sense the adventure he felt as he walked pass the weather beaten shops and buildings. In the end the book sends a strong message to the reader, follow your dreams!!! Don't be afraid to take a chance, you never know where it might lead you!!!

I would definitely recommend this book to everyone! Great Job Jack!!!

The research and attention to detail that has gone into the writing of this novel is incredible. If you're a fan of solid historical fiction, this is the book for you. Comeau portrays characters who ring true, make mistakes and look for redemption. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS BOOK 17 Jun. 2012

I bought this book on Friday and finished mid-day Saturday... The book is written so visually, it was like a memory of my own somehow. The fine line between reality and magic was deftly walked by an expert craftsman. I feel like I've just walked out of an epic film! My heart was pounding, I gasped out loud, what a fun read!! Looking forward to anything from this author.
5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome book. 26 Feb. 2014

Read it twice. Good book. I enjoyed reading so much that I read it twice and got my library to order it and I told my friends in person and on Facebook to read it. I felt like I actually had gone on the journey with the main character. Loved the details into the history behind it. I'd read it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Distress factor 18 Oct. 2012

The book was so interesting that I could not put it down! I felt like I was on the island during the whaling days and to the present. The book will enhance your visit to Nantucket, and it did!, The author made a detailed geographical and historical of this quaint island.
