This twin-pack consists of two Breath Alcohol Detectors and is intended to measure alcohol in the human breath. The results are used in the diagnosis of alcohol intoxication. The set contains two blow bags and two tubes. This set is NFX Compliant for legal use in France from the 1st of July 2012. Breath Alcohol Detector is a semi-quantitative, rapid screening test. It indicates relative Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) at 0.02%, 0.04%, 0.05%, 0.06%, 0.08% or 0.10% cut-off levels. Each detector contains crystals that detect a specific cut-off level of BAC. The test is based on a chemical reaction. Alcohol reacts with the crystals in the detector to produce a color change. The color change depends on the amount of alcohol in the breath. If the test is positive, the amount of alcohol in the breath is greater than or equal to the cut-off level of the detector.

I've not used mine yet so I can't comment on that aspect, but they are less than half the price as on board the ferry or at service stations in France, hence the 4 stars.
You don't have to use it just be ready to show it if you are stopped and the French police do sometimes target British holidaymakers.
If you haven't got one you can get an on the spot fine. Don't spoil your holiday get one of these.
