Richard McNeff has written another very good book, a historical novel exhibiting a truly impressive range and depth of research, which paints a riotous, delicious and appalling canvas depicting the mad and bad years of Rome under Nero. A parallel narrative places us in modern day Ibiza, where Mark Compayne, a disillusioned and sometime dissolute intellectual eking out a living teaching English, comes across a wax tablet with a few lines of Latin incised on it. The two plotlines are meshed with great skill and narrative control, and finally come together with a disturbing twist. McNeff is a writer who, in more cultured times, would get the recognition his talents so richly deserve.

Very interesting journey of light hearted humour through Samsaric pleasure. I wonder how we all fare on this voyage in this life.
