One thing I thought was a great edition to this book, was the cardboard dice that are placed inside the cover. once made these provide great writing prompts which I'm sure any author would find helpful, and it most definitely was.
The book is also filled with some amazing images from the new film as well as lot of great activities to do which keep your kids amused for hours! I think I will actually need to purchase another copy of this so the girls don't need to share and can help keep them busy throughout the Easter school holidays when hopefully we will also be able to fit in seeing the movie.
As well as making you think about what goes into a book (a beginning, middle and end, characters, cover, vocabulary, ...), the book also makes you get inside the characters' heads, viewing things from their perspective and trying to understand their viewpoints and feelings. This is all part of critical literacy, which is a huge priority in education at the moment - I was on a teaching conference last month which was precisely looking at ways to help children across Europe develop these kinds of skills. I'll be able to use this book to inspire some new ideas for classroom strategies for the research project, as well as let my daughter have fun at home.
Aside from that it is filled with beautiful images from the movie and floral embellishments that add to the magical beauty of the book.
While this book is aimed at 8-12 year olds, it is suitable for much older people - adults even. I've enjoyed the book as much as the children have, if not more, and highly recommend it for anyone wanting to exercise their creativity.
It has beautifully designed pages, all 160 of them, which are filled with prompts and ideas designed to encourage you to write. As you go through the book changing the characters or setting, your own version of the story begins to come together.
There are little touches, such as several push out die, that you can make inside the back and front covers of the book, to help you chose the next place or character for example to help you along your way. Stunning images from the film are used throughout and combined with the beautiful illustrations and page layout, they really do make the book seem special.
My daughter loves this book and is filling it out carefully in her best handwriting to show me her story only when it is finished. I would recommend to others.
N.B We received a free copy of this book for review however these are our honest thoughts of the product.
The book itself is stunning and the tasks so well thought out.
We are only a fraction of the way through the book as it does its job perfectly and everytime we pick it up and do a task it Inspires my son to write more of his own story that he is working on.
