When you first step into Dishonored as Corvo Attano (coolest name ever), you find you have been on a mission to the neighbouring Isles for Empress Jessamine Kaldwin to ask for help with halting the rat infestation spreading plague throughout Dunwall, your home, but after a fruitless journey you return empty handed. This is the starting point. The introduction provides a good scene-setter for what is about to come, as it doesn't take long before things unravel and you are seemingly caught red handed holding a dead Empress. I don't think it would be too spoilerific to reveal it wasn't you that killed her, so that's where the Dishonored bit comes in.
So, time for revenge then. After a shortish stay you are sprung from prison and put to work by a bunch of upper class white men who believe you were framed and want to set things right. What this means is you are given license to go on a massive stabathon through Dunwall, getting revenge on those who committed this heinous crime by any means necessary. Simple. And it's very refreshing, because this is a game trying to be a game, not a film.
That doesn't mean to say there is nothing going on between Dishonored's ears. Dishonored's world is a fully fleshed out planet, there are many, many things to read, observe, learn, deduce, watch and, well, kill.Read more ›
Firstly with a game of the year edition I would expect that all of it would be on the disc. This is not the case as only 91% of the game is on the disc and you have to download over a gig of data to be able to play it. This may not seem a lot but if you have a poor internet connection, like me, it will take up to 2 hours to download.
The second reason is the problem I had trying to get it to work on steam.
There is a glitch on steam that if you own the original game and then install the GOTY version it will only install the original without the DLC. You will know you have a problem if steam does not ask you to input your new GOTY access code. Here is one way to get your game to work.
1) Uninstall your original game. Any saved game should be stored so you won't loose anything.
2) Open up steam(by double clicking the icon located in the bottom right hand side of your desktop).
3) Click on the word "games" (at the top of the screen) to bring up a drop down section and click on "Activate a product on steam".
4) When asked input the new access code that came with the game.
5) It is very important when steam acknowledges that your code has been accepted you cancel the installation. I found that if you don't Steam tries to download the whole game which is about 14 Gigs.
6) Open up game disc 1. To do this with Windows 7 left click the round windows icon located in the bottom left hand side of your desktop and left click the word computer (which is on the right hand side of the box that popped up). All the drives that are available on your computer should be listed right click on disc 1 and left click on the word open.Read more ›
Dishonored is a gritty action stealth game in which you play a revenge-driven assassin with a full complement of deadly gadgets and supernatural magics. There is an emphasis on avoiding bloodshed, in combining logic and patience (mostly patience), to outwit the enemies and follow the storyline, undetected.
Never fear, if you are completely incapable of sneaking past a guard, even if he was deaf, blind, and asleep - like me, Dishonored still offers you the awesome fun of hacking, slashing and zapping everything to death in a bloody rage. This is called a high chaos playthrough - and it'll change the storyline, and affect the way you play the levels, what side quests you can complete and ultimately, the ending.
If you are some sort of crazy completionist, you'll have two whole playthroughs to enjoy, and some of the achievements are only to be attempted by those with the patience of a saint, and prepare to lose some sanity in the process.
Downsides are the game is a wee bit on the short side; although if you're buying the GOTY addition this is somewhat made up for in the story DLC which adds a fair chunk of side story as well as some new gadgets and abilities. I think the GOTY version is well worth the extra; I personally bought each of the DLC as they released at full price - and don't regret it!
A unique setting, compelling storyline, fluid gameplay, replayability and challenge, in case you can't tell, I recommend!
