This is the first in the True Love trilogy and I will warn you now there is a big cliffy but don’t worry as the second book, Finding Us, is also now available so no banging your head against the wall like I did on my first read a few months back. Not to say I didn’t like it, quite the opposite as I loved it but OMG what pitfalls and anxiety was thrust upon me! It still had the same power to sucker punch me in the gut the second time around too. But then I love books that do that to me!

Jag Jensen and Ellen Love have known each other their whole lives, from being playmates in the neighbourhood to finally becoming a couple. But it took a long road to get there and this is what this book is all about, hence the title, Discovering Us.

From the age of thirteen, Jag suddenly becomes distant from his tomboy friend Ellen and as all adolescent boys his attention span flips from boyhood pranks to girls. Lots of girls! His love of baseball also sees him focusing on developing his skill which over the years he gradually goes up in the ranks to be facing a life in the spotlight of a pro career.

Ellen was devastated to lose her best friend but she struck up a new one in Rebecca. Over the years she has transformed from the tomboy into the beauty she is today. Well doesn’t that just catch Jag’s eye and he wants his friend back. Whoo hoo – what happens next is a gorgeous budding romance which develops into something far more than both could ever imagined. Even through separation due to Jag’s baseball playoffs all over the states, they have still remained strong. As such after three years Ellen moves to be with him permanently in California. How was she to know the bitch from down the condo block who was 'all that', was out to catch her man big style.

This book is a story of childhood sweethearts Jagger Knox Jensen and Ellen Love who first meet at the age of five living in the same neighbourhood. The story follows them through there childhood into there mid twenty's.

The story line in the beginning of the book I found was slightly slow as with each chapter its a year older or miss a few years but once I reached a quarter way through the story line started to deepen and I actually found myself not being able to put the book down.

Jagger or Jag is a few years older than Ellen and wants to pursue a career in baseball but when he finds himself being head hunted his move takes him away from Ellen who is still in college.

I actually found myself shouting in my head at Ellen as her character come across as a women who would dote or take anything Jag offered her.

When Jag finally hits it big time Ellen follows him to Hollywood to pursue her career but there are yet more problems along the way as Jags agent Dirk is determined to split this couple up and introuduces Jag to Alessandra a Model but when they do a hot steamy tv comerical together things take a turn for the worse and Ellen becomes ill losing weight and constantly stressing about there relationship.

Dirk invites Jag and Ellen to a party but at the last minute Dirk tells Jag once Ellen is dressed to go that Jag has to go alone but Ellen watches it on the tv and can not believe what she sees things come to a head when Jag walks back in after the party with Alessandra on his arm and Ellen cant take no more.

This is a book is left on a cliff hanger and you honestly feel sorry for Ellen but wanting to scratch Alessandras eyes out.

Im awarding this book 4.5 *s as I loved the book and the way it was written but it was just the beginning that slowed me down getting fully into the book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Discovering a great read! 15 Oct. 2013
By Marti Wills - Published on Amazon.com

Okay where to start hmmmmmm.....I"ll start here with a desperate message in hopes that the Author sees this!!!!!!!!

Please Puhlease do not ruin Jag!!!!! He is already on thin ice with me but it's not to late lol!!!!!! he hasn't really done anything yet that would make it impossible for him to be redeemed.....if he does what I think he is gonna do I am going to straight throw my IPAD across the room! please don't make me break my IPAD ;)

Alright enough begging here is my review:

With all that I am fixing to write below I want to stress that I highly recommend this book......obviously I gave it four stars and I am writing a review! I like to consider myself in the loop and think as a avid romance reader we are all looking for a great story and interesting entertainment.....I don't rate stories with four or five stars or write a review on a book/authors work that I don't stand by! Now this is my first book by this author and I can tell you she has got it! You know 'it' the ability to pull you in and get you hooked.....and I am hooked for sure.....what I am listing below is purely my opinion and hopes that she goes a different route in the story on her next book in this series.....I am thinking she will.....that's why I'm writing this review being a cheerleader of sorts lol I have never written a negative review and never will.....I have so much respect for authors to put their work out to be judged. This review is strictly constructive criticism based on the last few chapters.....in no way would I warn off anyone from reading this book......it is a spectacular story!

The one and only reason I gave this book 4 Stars besides I love this story was our Heroine.....she friggin rocks! She made this story all by her little ol'self.
I deducted a star for not having Jag's POV I'll get to that later.....here is the breakdown.

Heroine: she is fun.....smart.....sweet.....innocent.....hilarious....I enjoyed so much being in her head! She has loved Jag her whole life in so many different forms...it was so much fun to read her love transforming into true deep soulful """"dedicated""" trustworthy"""" love. She only had 1 or 2 WTH moments which here lately in books I'm reading is a home run. She is NOT ditsy or too naive....she is very relatable and just a fun character......loved her!

Now I usually spend a lot of time talking about my favorite character but I'm gonna skip over the Heroine in hopes that the Author reads this....Do authors really listen to the readers? Dang I hope so ;)

Hero: he is a difficult one....I did not have his POV which totally sucked because I could form a much better opinion about him if I did....now I'm left to my own imagination and really a true guessing game about what's going on in that head of his ;) here was my take on it:

Throughout the whole book up until the last few chapters I was truly puttin him at the top of the all time favorite book boyfriend....he did and said everything us romance readers want our Heroes to do because let's face it we have expectations and he certainly didn't disappoint according to our Heroine ( so she says) again who knows what was going on his end....let me explain! There is a period of time our couple is separated by distance, school and his career. now we know what our girl is doing during this time her thoughts her feelings etc. We know several things based on our heroes interactions with her and what he says but it is not the same thing as his POV....which lessened this great story. Now I am not going to give away any spoilers but here is where I get a little sick feeling in my stomach that I hate to have when I am reading my books......it's the big ol uncertainty about my dear wonderful hero.....he does something to our sweet, awesome heroine that I have to straighten up in my seat and say literally out loud say NO NO NO NO.....not only am I saying it because my hero is getting ruined and so is my story here but he is friggin messing with my Heroine lol dramatic I know I know! But it's not too late it can be fixed this Author is really good! This story is really good! Now I know any good story has to come with a little angst.....I like that and I always brace myself and anticipate it....but in the last few chapters it just took a bad turn and without Jag's voice and reason I just had to come to my own conclusion and unfortunately am gonna have to wait til the next book cause it ends on a cliffhanger which is fine....we don't have a long wait for the next book :) but I'm praying what I think is going to happen doesn't so I can keep my IPAD ;)

In a perfect world of book reading which we all know doesnt always happen I hope that the hero here doesn't screw over the heroine like I think he is going to.....Author......he will not be the same in my eyes if he goes any further with you know who!!!!!!!!! and I am sure a lot of other readers will not be so forgivable and no matter what he says or does I'm gonna be thinking nuhuh I don't care you did that lol ewwww please don't let him lol it will break our heroine she will always have that in her head wether she forgives him or not.....uggggg she will be ruined! I'll hurt for her and dang I'm a grudge holder! Like for life lol I wont get past it I so hope it goes another way! Crossing fingers ;)

Anyway see my point...... the author totally has me begging here on the edge! See she did good :) got me invested over here trying to stick up for a fictional character......argue for her! Gahhhhh......

so there is my review/rant/plea......

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING BUT A MAJOR, MAJOR CLIFFHANGER!!!!!!! 30 Oct. 2013
By Susan L. Griffiths - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
I loved this story!! Jag is awesome till the last few chapters and then -- you are left hanging BAD!! While I loved this story, had I known there was going to be a cliffhanger and then a four month wait till the next book is released, I would not have read this! It seems just about every book you pick up now has a cliffhanger with a second or even third book to follow. What happened to the old days where the first book had the whole story? I remember those days, and yeah it took longer to read but I was happy when I finished the book. This book left me full of angst and then some! The characters are awesome, the story is great, but waiting till February is not!!! I highly recommend this but be prepared for a big cliffhanger.

3.0 out of 5 stars UGH!!!!!!!!! 13 Oct. 2013

I knew going in it was a trilogy but in today's writing world that can mean various things. It could mean and I had hoped it did that it would follow "different" characters in the other books but this book NOOOOOOOO. I am to the point I am so sick of cliffhangers that leave me devastated. What ever happened to HEA and guys that don't act like complete jerks nearly the entire book! I absolutely abhor Jag. He totally sucks!!! I will be happy if she goes home and finds someone worthy because to be frank Jag IS NOT! I am not sure how he can be redeemed in the subsequent books but before he gets her back I hope she rubs a bunch of other GREAT guys in his face! 3 stars because SICK of trilogies! but the writing IS VERY GOOD! New rule for myself NEVER buy or read a book until the series is finished! Just not worth the anguish!

4.0 out of 5 stars Discovering us 12 Oct. 2013

I don't get it. All the readers that like this book. I hate how it ended. Now I have to wait until Feb 2014 to see if they get together. That ending sucked. She never went back. I guess I don't get the great reviews on that horrible ending. It would have been a great read if it was a stand alone book. If I knew it ended like that I would have never wasted my money...
5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Chemistry with a Killer Cliffhanger! 20 Dec. 2013
By M. Womochil - Published on Amazon.com

What did I think?

This book is amazing! The chemistry is crazy between Ellen and Jag.

Again I had the privilege to pre-read this book for this amazing author and I couldn't be luckier to have early access to such an incredible story.

The story starts as Ellen and Jag meet at the ice cream truck when they were young kids and shows the relationship as they grow. There will be three books in this series and with the way this one ends, you can only hope that you have enough tissues to get you through and you'll be wanting the next one immediately.

Biased or not, this book is great. Harper Bentley claims she's not an angst author but holy crap she should be! The angst in this one is KILLER and the sexy times are YOWZA :)

You go through all the emotions you can think of: She made me laugh (I love Ellen's sarcastic nature)! She made me cry (bring on the Kleenex and snot sobbing)! She made me angry (I can't tell you why but OMG!)

At the end I was like NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!! Why isn't the next book out now?

*sigh*
