It's essentially a book of instructions on how to run SEMs in Stata, and doesn't go into much detail about SEMs themselves. For example, I couldn't seem to find an outline of the assumptions.
Still, quite a good book to have in hand to guide you through the codes & outputs.

HASH(0x93d9b4b0) out of 5 stars The free user manual is quite similar! 15 Dec. 2013

I found this to be one of the least satisfying Stata books because the author does not go much beyond the free user manual on SEM provided by Stata, which is surprisingly user-friendly. Indeed, this book is among the thinnest of the many Stata books available. Many terms and options are not described fully beyond the free manual. The index is close to being worthless. My standard for Stata books is Mitchell's, "Interpreting and Visualizing Regression," which adds a LOT to the free manual, is extremely well written and is organized in a way that anyone can easily find what they need. If you want a quick overview of SEM in Stata, this book is OK. But the free user manual in Stata is surprisingly user-friendly and is remarkably similar to this $60 book!
HASH(0x93d9b7e0) out of 5 stars Highly recommend 15 Jan. 2016
By fish bean - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
In a nutshell, buy this book if you want to learn about SEM. I have had several other books that my professor used as textbooks and are widely cited, but this book is by far the most helpful one. Acock foresees and explains readers' common questions/misunderstandings using very simple language. He also presents formulas and commands in a way that is easier to digest. The price is a little steep -- that's why I borrowed this book from our library. But I'm totally considering buying this book for later reference. I highly recommend this book to everyone who is interested in learning SEM using STATA.

HASH(0x94046da4) out of 5 stars Great book to indroduce SEM in Stata 15 Jun. 2013
By Timo H. - Published on Amazon.com

This is a great book to introduce SEM in Stata. Great examples and easy to understand. I would rate it at beginner/intermediate. Only problem is that Stata 13 is coming out now - it will have more SEM features that won't be covered in this book.
HASH(0x93f29a74) out of 5 stars Well done, Professor Acock! 10 July 2016

Among the advantages of STATA is the GUI for model specification under CFA. This is not readily available for Mac OS machines, which is why I've recently migrated to STATA from SPSS. Alan Acock explains structural equation modeling and CFA very well. Consequently, I'll be using the book as a manual for several upcoming projects. Well done!

This book really helped me. It is well written. Gives a nice/crispy background in CFA/SME, and many useful hints when you want to work with SEM in Stata.
