Proper healthy vegan food from ex Dirty Sanchez presenter Matt Pritchard, who is now fronting the BBC's first ever vegan cookery programme.
About the Author
Since Dirty Sanchez, Matt Pritchard has maintained his motto 'Sleep when you're dead' and is now an endurance athlete who undergoes extreme challenges for charity. Breaking world records and tackling anything in his path, he credits much of his success to his change in diet - becoming 100% vegan. His approach is to show people just how easy and cheap it can be to go vegan and how the right nutrition can help you perform.
From the Publisher
From the ex presenter of the cult TV show Dirty Sanchez, Matt Pritchard, comes the BBC's first ever (and long overdue) vegan cookery programme. In Dirty Vegan, Matt is set a challenge to create vegan food for certain groups of people with specific nutritional needs - a women's rugby team, OAPs, teenagers and emergency services (mountain rescue). He examines the science behind the ingredients, such as egg alternatives, and cooks 2-3 recipes per episode.
In this television tie-in, Matt shows you just how easy and cheap it can be to go vegan and how the right nutrition can help you perform better in all aspects of life. Discover more than 80 cracking recipes for proper healthy vegan food - such as the Full vegan pile up, Squash and shroom momos with yuzu dip, Crispy bang-bang tofu, peanut and chilli stir-fry, Creamy peppercorn and mushroom pie and Maple, orange and chocolate baklava.
Chapters include: Morning Kickstarters, Quick Hits and Gobfuls, Rabbit Food, Belly Warmers, Proper Main Munch, The Main's Best Mate and Sweet Stuff.

Choc a bloc full of good wholesome, non-weird recipes, I would highly recommend this to those that are new to veganism as often it can be a bit bewildering, the majority of his recipes include ingredients that you either have in your store cupboard or easily found in supermarkets. I am even tempted to try out seitan for the first time, he makes it look so simple and I am sure the majority of the dishes would impress the most ardent carnivore, in fact this was bought for me by a non vegan male who insisted I dish up the hangover breakfast on his next visit!!
Matt just goes to prove that not all vegans are prissy health freaks, here we have a complete nut job (see Dirty Sanchez) who is not afraid to show compassion. An added bonus is the picture on the front cover, phew, got all hot and bothered before I even turned the stove on!!
Slightly disappointing if you are a seasoned cook/chef as the recipes are not that inventive considering how far veganism has come along from it's worthy stereotype, but if you are looking for a non pretentious beginners guide to vegan recipes then it is the book for you!
No outlandish ingredients, no convoluted cooking techniques an honest to goodness beginners guide to vegan cooking.
What slightly irked me though is the way the book has been presented, the whole (post)punk/dirty vegan thing had been introduced years ago by Isa Chandra Moskowitz with her array of alternative vegan cookbooks, YouTube videos, websites and articles (no doubt there is precursors to her ideas and recipes too).
For publishers to portray Dirty Vegan as a fierce new way of exploring vegan food without giving a nod to those that have come before it is questionable, but hey that's my hang up !
