This book was not really what I was expecting, it was much darker and complex, with plenty of twists and turns, in the mysterious journey to find Vegas’ stalker. The author kept the reader on their toes by moving from one situation to another, building the guessing game of who the stalker could be. This had a downside for me as the storyline lost its flow and felt a little staggered in parts.
It’s not a romance although there are some romantic elements, which is not a bad thing but just giving the heads up if a new reader was looking for love and a HEA, something that this book does not offer.
Vegas was a likeable character, as were they all, but some ended up being the complete opposite of what was originally believed. It is difficult to explain this without spoiling the plot. The other thing I found strange was the character names which were all city/place names. At first I thought these were the nicknames for the sex line workers but alas it was not so. This took away some believability of the plot for me, which I know sounds a bit lame but this is the effect it had on me.
There are plenty of curve balls thrown in but the one involving his ex and the ending had me shaking my head. However it was still an enjoyable read and one I just kept having to read further to find out what the heck was going on.
Overall a unique and involving plot that gave this book a need to read feel. Three and a half stars.
Where to start...trying to construct a review without sounding negative...after reading the blurb I couldn't wait to get started, unfortunately my interest didn't last long as the story just couldn't hold my interest and at times I was unsure as to whether I wanted to continue which was a real shame.
Vegas is a hot phone sex operator who knows just how to make your deepest, darkest fantasies come true either with a gentle whisper in your ear or with a rough growling command. When he’s in control, you know you’re in good hands. Vegas can tickle or scratch whatever itch or fetish a caller can throw at him.
But his job at the exclusive ‘Black Vanilla’ has its dark side, which becomes all too clear when Vegas receives a call one night that hits a little too close to home.
As I've stated I really struggled to keep reading however, that being said and thankfully the story although slow paced does pick up with twists and turns but just doesn't work for me. I felt it didn't flow. I couldn't connect to the character's and really disliked the fact they were all named after cities which I know sounds quite petty but at times it made for confusing reading. Although marked as romance I felt it was more suspense/thriller which is a genre I love which makes it all the more tougher to say I didn't really enjoy it, that being said I would recommend as there are mixed reviews some people will enjoy it and some people like me will not.

My biggest issue with the book is that Amazon categorized this book as a romance (which is why, as above, I chose not to penalize the author with a 1 or 2 star review). There is no *main* romantic subplot, and worst of all, there is no hea. I thought going into the epilogue that it was going to end happily at least, but no. For my fellow readers who need a hea to enjoy a book, this is not going to be the book for you. That said- if the book had been tagged solely mystery/suspense and I had purchased it on those grounds, I might have enjoyed it.
TLDR: I did not enjoy the book, but if mystery/suspense thrillers are what you enjoy, this is a decent example.
This is one of the reads that keeps you glued to your book, but leaves you a little confused or slightly wondering what just happened. I don't typically give things away in my reviews without a blatant "spoil alert warning", but I'm afraid you might get a little spoiler if you read into my hints and/or code. Trust me, I'm not trying to give it away, I just need to get a few things off my chest about this one.
First off, lets just stare at the cover. I mean, sigh...Sooooo, this took some time getting in to. I was a bit confused as to where the author was going to take us since we start in the present, then flash back (staying there as though it's the present), returning to the present, to then work on character building with Vegas' co-workers before I felt anything worth happening, happened. Whew...that was difficult. But once the drama starts, I was completely in it to win it. Between the different lust filled moments and trying to find out "who-done-it", by the time I got to the climax, I was like, "wait, what?". And THEN....that's not even really the end. Nope, that would have been too easy. Instead, we get to read about a HEA. But is it? I'm not sure. I'm STILL trying to figure out if it's actually a HEA or nightmare all over again for poor Vegas. I'll let you decide which it is.
Vegas is a southern boy who moved to New York in search of something bigger than the life we was dealt. After spending his first years in N.Y. in a committed relationship with someone who ended up NOT being what dreams were made of, he moves in with his BFF and starts working as a phone sex operator. Although he had been there for a couple of years, nothing major was happening in his life and he was becoming a home body before he was even twenty-five. That is until he starts receiving strange and mysterious calls from someone who clearly knew who he was, where he lived and even who he was hanging out with.
This story is interlaced with ex-boyfriend issues, co-worker hook-ups, BFF drama and of course a twist that still has me wondering WTF! Seriously, WTF??? Still trying to process whether the twist is a good thing or just plan 'ol creepy.
