Starring John Lithgow, Norbert Leo Butz, Sherie Rene Scott, Joanna Gleason, Gregory Jbara and Sara Gettelfinger, this album does great credit to a truly great piece of comedy musical theatre.
Based on the film of the same name, the plot follows the dirty deeds of Lawrence Jameson (John Lithgow) and Freddy Benson (Norbert Leo Butz) as they con their way along the French Riviera. Benson extricates Jameson from an almost disastrous liaison with Texan Cowgirl Jolene Oakes (Sara Gettelfinger) by teaming up with him. The two of them then challenge each other to extract $50,000 from wealthy heiress Christine Colgate (Sherie Rene Scott) before con artist ‘The Jackal’ moves in on them.
Any soundtrack, even one as good as this, can only ever be a poor second to seeing this wonderful show, but devotees of the genre will not be disappointed with the tunes and lyrics superbly reproduced by this all-star cast.
For me, the ‘bonus track’ rendition of Scott’s ‘Nothing Is Too Wonderful To Be True’ is worth the price of the CD alone, five times over.
For those of us who live too far away to keep going back for a ‘top-up’ this CD will keep us going until the show comes to the West End - which it will undoubtedly do.

The lyrics are witty, the tunes are catchy - I loved the London show, and in the absence of their cast recording this does the business.
