Format: Paperback
Dirt: The Ecstatic Skin of the Earth by William Bryant Logan is an enlightening and heartening read for anyone who studies the earth in science or daily living. Although a few of the factoids are not quite correct (watch that logarithmic scale!), this book is full of fascinating science of the soil, surrounded by heartfelt prose. Logan makes earth-centered philosophy accessible to anyone who has ever had a gut feeling that the land is good. The religion of the soil he presents is unobtrusive, yet all-pervading. Read it and feel good.

I had hoped for a series of essays on the science and ecology of the soil that covers much of the land surface of the Earth, but found the book riddled with religion instead. Very disappointing.

Dirt is a reveverence to mother nature... Logan in this book described very well our belonging to the land, trought historical fact and stories. Full of very interesting scientific fact that Logan make sing with poetic manner, definitely a book to have on your shelf if you want a good introduction with the dirt. It worst to get a copy and start to put your hands in.

Reads like a collection of nicely nicely essays for his Parish Magazine.
Should not be recommended along side 'Eating the Sun' or 'The Emerald Planet' both of which I enjoyed for their scientific content and real issues concerning the state of our planet and how important plants were in our evolution.Dirt: The Ecstatic Skin of the Earth
